I received my first official inheritance money the other day from my Granny, who died last summer. She gave each grandchild $1000. I wondered what to do with the money and did not want to spend it frivolously. I also did not want to just spend it paying off bills.

I went out today and bought two pairs of diamond/white gold earrings. I have double pierced ears and thought that having a larger pair of diamonds and a smaller pair would look nice as well as actually being a meaningful purchase. This way I can always remember that the earrings came from Granny and be able to pass them down to my daughter when it is time.

I still have some money left and I am debating about what to do with it.

The only other thing I ever got as an inheritance was a very old china cabinet that came from my paternal grandmother's house. It is in my dining room filled with crystal glasses and china.

Have you ever received an inheritance? What did you do with it?

That's what granny would have wanted.

My grandmother (and, thankfully only dead close relative) left me a copy of the Bible.

I can see that being useful, what with being an atheist and all.

Not yet, but since it would mean that my parents would die I am in no hurry.

I would probably retire - or buy a house.

I just received a very hefty one from my parents, well into six figures. Most is getting invested, the rest is being spent on updating things around our house: windows, furniture, etc.

I opened a restaurant, and I'm buying a house. I haven't figured out what to do with the rest.

I agree with Heretic. I want my parents to live a long time - they can spend it all.

I have been eliminated from my family's inheritance chain due to a long standing disagreement with my parents. As far as I know I will receive nothing from my parents, and my grandparent's estates were divided among their children rather than the grandchildren.

Much of my family's assets are kept in trust but I will not be receiving any of the lucre from that either.

So ---- you and your thousand bucks. (just kidding)

I was written out of my dad's will. Made it easy to put his ashes in the back of the niche close to the cold, cold ground. And mom's ashes up front next to the door to the niche that's warmed by the sun.
