OK...Ok but I'll bet the risk will only effect Indian rice prices not the rest...
No...people who eat Indian rice will just eat millet or something else they not gonna switch types of rice maybe youn will but most people I know won't but hey when you all ever see rice pieces netting effected by your hypothetical rice shortage let me know...OK...
If people who buy in Indian rice can't get Indian rice, what will they do?
They'll buy Chinese rice, or American rice, etc.
If you suddenly have more buyers bidding for less product, the buyers will bid more to try to make sure they're the ones who get it.
Question: If you go to the store for basmati and find it out of stock, will you switch to eating curry and mashed potatoes, or just buy a bag of long-grain instead?
Well you don't seem to understand that one type of rice is not interchangable with other types to create the shortage you preparing for but hey wherever you see any rice shortages from war or otherwise let me know so you can pretend to know something again
I know India exports a fuckton of rice, and any interruption in production or export would raise the price of rice worldwide, so…
And there ARE a variety of crude oils (refined at specific refineries) from various sources / countries, and the interruption of the production or export from any of those sources / countries affects the price worldwide, so…

You think that the global market will just swap to millet, with nobody deciding to pay more for rice?No...people who eat Indian rice will just eat millet or something else they not gonna switch types of rice maybe youn will but most people I know won't but hey when you all ever see rice pieces netting effected by your hypothetical rice shortage let me know...
A couple of years ago, the Spanish olive oil harvest basically failed. A combination of drought and fire.No...people who eat Indian rice will just eat millet or something else they not gonna switch types of rice maybe youn will but most people I know won't but hey when you all ever see rice pieces netting effected by your hypothetical rice shortage let me know...
You think rice prices going up so much that you gotta stock up really really...? Yeah let us all know when you've cornered the marketYou think that the global market will just swap to millet, with nobody deciding to pay more for rice?
Really? Seriously? People in Europe, and in nations where millet has never been their staple carbon, will just stop buying rice completely rather than grumble about the price increase and buy it anyway? Really?
Olive oil did, and I was glad I'd bought an extra can.You think rice prices going up so much that you gotta stock up really really...? Yeah let us all know when you've cornered the market![]()
Hey you're the one still trying to justify your stocking up on rice not meOlive oil did, and I was glad I'd bought an extra can.
I also buy mulyipurchase deals and special offers to store for later, and have an extra freezer in the garage for when I batch cook,
You're making an awfully big drama out of someone buying extra food for the pantry to save a few pounds in the long term.
I'm assuming it's to compensate for your lack of common sense. Do you live on fast food?
Hey you're the one still trying to justify your stocking up on rice not me![]()
Rubio was the lynch pin.I am shockedSHOCKED I tellzya!
Finally, India makes it official: Trump didn't broker India-Pakistan ceasefire

Be fair. There was one post justifying stocking up. The rest were attempting to explain basic cause and effect to someone who thought the European appetite for rice would be satisfied with millet.Hey you're the one still trying to justify your stocking up on rice not me![]()
Source ?India complaining loudly this evening that Pakistan is already "violating the terms of the cease fire" by flying drones over the "Line of Control" (a metal fence) that designates territorial borders into India.
Pakistan looked at the video footage that India claimed was "proof" and said "Praise Allah for high resolution photography!
Increase magnification to 100x and you can see these are Indian drones that are made in India for the Indian military....they're not Pakistani drones coming "back to Pakistan", they're Indian military drones going INTO Pakistan".
Seems unlikely still....Well, there's not going to be a war anyway, is there?
No interruption in the rice supply.
I don't know anyone who has done the same though.I believe you’re missing the big(ger) picture.
Sure, one dolf doing something / being affected doesn’t amount to much - but a billion + dolfs doing something / being affected IS a big fucking deal.
And rice is just one purchase that is affected by tariffs, war, etc, so you can multiply those billion + dolfs by every purchase they make.
And now factor in the effect on the financial markets, etc, as a billion + dolfs all change their buying habits at the same time ("panic" / "precautionary" buying usually accompanies major upheavals / interruptions in the global supply chain caused by trade wars AND war-wars.
“Cause & effect” PLUS “The Yuuuuge Dumb Orange Butterfly Effect” equals a global crisis.
It’s that ^ simple.

With the great toilet paper crises during the pandemic, something triggered the panic buying, which created the shortage, which triggered panic buying. I think perhaps it was that everyone was feeling the effects of the pandemic daily.
Going back to the example of olive oil, despite there being an entire season of news stories mentioning how the freak weather would hit the supply chain, there was no panic buy. Similarly, there's no mass rush to buy rice. I don't think individuals stocking up is going to more than a ripple.
rice prices will rise, people will grumble. The very poor may opt out of rice completely, but the official national dish of the UK is chicken tikka masala, so that gives you some idea of how popular a plate of basmati is. Indian/Pakistani basmati is part of a weekly tradition for a hell of a lot of brits, so I predict a lot of "bloody inflation!" on curry nights.
To be fair I just didn't think there'd be a rice shortage and you been relying and trying very hard to prove there will be one...Be fair. There was one post justifying stocking up. There was a cyber attack on a supermarket chain this week, and their delivery system was crippled. Their shelves were empty for a couple of days. Wild.Well, yeah. I was basically laying out a worse case scenario (like the pandemic) which could / might occur if things REALLY pop off between India & Pakistan, etc, or if the global economy & supply chains falter due to a dumb trade war, etc.
In America, there are some experts advising "precautionary" buying of select items to hedge against expected near term shortages and predicted price spikes that are likely to result from the shipping interruption caused by DonOld’s tariff insanity.
You aren’t the only one stocking up on a few things. I’ve found myself stockpiling a few staples “just in case”./ “to be prepared”.

No, dear. I've been trying very hard to explain that there could be a rice shortage. And, now that I've gone through enough crayons for you to understand that a fall in supply leads toan increase in price, you're attempting to twist it into something else.To be fair I just didn't think there'd be a rice shortage and you been relying and trying very hard to prove there will be one...
How's this for crayons yer still trying hard to convince people that your rice shortage hypothesis a certainty when it's just your opinion that's what gonna happen...There was a cyber attack on a supermarket chain this week, and their delivery system was crippled. Their shelves were empty for a couple of days. Wild.

One of the saddest things about the change in national priorities in America since Trump was elected is the de-emphasis on cybersecurity.
Yeah, cyber attacks are ANOTHER reason / cause for concern that only increases the need / motivation for individuals to take preemptive precautionary measures (stocking up on staples, etc) to avoid being left in the lurch.
One of the saddest things about the change in national priorities in America since Trump was elected is the de-emphasis on cybersecurity.
The FBI was constructing an enormous "cybersecurity complex" in Huntsville, Alabama to deal with intrusions and cyber crime. This was a priority of the first Trump administration in 2019. It has gone painstakingly slowly through Congress, planning, bidding, and finally construction from 2022 to 2024. The campus was 90% complete and almost ready for occupancy when Trump took over.
New FBI director Kashyap Pramod Vinod "Kash" Patel has unilaterally cancelled the FBI's long-needed cybersecurity program, halted construction on the complex, and has opted to repurpose the campus as basically a MMA/UFC training dojo, so that FBI agents can become proficient at all forms of mixed martial arts.
Patel and Trump seem to take crime "fighting" literally.
