So, in my five year mission to explore strange new kinks; to seek out new stories in new categories; to boldly go where every man has been before, I was thinking about I/T.

Full disclosure: I wrote a bunch of I/T stuff when I was first here in a laughably naive attempt to be provocative (hah!). These have long since been reworked to remove the ick factor.

But…

Would father-in-law, daughter-in-law still be I/T. No blood relation, so a) I’m more comfortable but b) it might not count. More pertinently, I have an idea about how to write this.

But it’s pointless if I just get laughed out of court for mis-categorizing.

Thoughts…?

Yes, it would definitely fall under the category. Alohadave is correct that some readers may not like it quite as much as "real" incest. Without the blood tie, the sizzle isn't quite the same, for some.

Some people will ding you for the non-blood relation, but those people are dumb and would ding you for any number of non-sensical things.
I’m used to that - try dropping a lesbian marriage into LW!
It's a family relationship, and even if not strictly incest, it's still taboo.
My thoughts exactly.

Still the age dynamics (which I’m more than used to) and maybe power. But not the actual eew!!!!

I know it’s kinda the porn trope of *wink* step-daughter, but I think I can make it work.

I can cope with that. Wasn’t so much after sizzle, more something I kinda realistic, which I think I could make something of.

Legal definitions of incest may offer scholars a fascinating stroll through the frontal lobes of various legislative bodies, but they are of little relevance here. What matters is that the reader is made to feel that the (hopefully consensual) relationship between the individuals is taboo due to consanguinity. It is not some legal definition that matters, for the legal definition of incest varies wildly between places, even between states in the USA, for instance. Rather, it is that frisson of illicitness that makes it intriguing to some.

Consider that the ancient Pharaohs were obligated by law, custom, societal norms and religious commandment to marry their sisters, thus ‘keeping the royal bloodline pure’. Given that, one wonders what ancient Egyptian porn looked like?

A possible flashback to a typical Upper Nile household five thousand years ago:

Imhotep!”

“Yes, flower of my life?”

“We need to talk!”

“Um, yes, my dove?”

“I found this scroll in your briefcase.”

Gulp.

“Yes, dear?”

“Don’t you ‘yes, dear’ me, Imhotep!”

Silence.

“Have you read it?”

“Um, no, as a matter of fact. Just picked it up on my way home from work. Um, what’s for dinner?”

“Don’t try to change the topic, Imhotep! There’s a story in here in which the Pharaoh...”

“May the gods smile on him!”

Maythegodssmileonhim... the Pharaoh actually thinks a serving wench is pretty! He thinks about kissing her! And she’s not his sister, Imhotep, not even a distant cousin!”

Silence.

“It says that, Imhotep! This scroll actually has that written on it!”

Silence.

“That’s disgusting, Imhotep! It’s criminal and it’s blasphemous and it’s wrong and I am ashamed of you!”

“Erm, yes, dear. I actually only buy it for the interviews...”

“Imhotep, I will not have this kind of smut in my house!”

“Yes, dear.”

“Just think what would happen if our children read this!”

“Yes, dear.”

“Don’t you ‘yes, dear’ me, Imhotep!”

“Yes, dear.”

Write what you want. If it's well-written, that taboo feeling will be there.

It’s going to be a twisted Emily Miller story. Not sure about how hot. More at the emotional end of my range, or that’s the idea.

Oh, it's the emotional hotness I'm talking about! So many potential betrayals on multiple levels. I fully expect it's going to sizzle, Em.

No real betrayals. Though kinda. I won’t say more without revealing my current plot outline. But definitely boundaries being transgressed, with different motivations on both sides.

Em, my first story here was a niece / uncle / aunt scenario. Laurel put it into I/T, emphasis on the T...

Bedpost impaling, FF fisting, FMF sex... Before I had to pull it down, it scored 4.66 with over 600 votes.

The two follow up stories also did well, so there is definitely a market for non-blood shenanigans.

I believe niece or nephew with uncle or aunt is blood relation. Well I guess not if it's with the uncle/aunt who married in, rather than the one who is the niece/nephew's parent's sibling.

But definitely yes on the step-relations in IT.

I’ve written 1,000 words. After a few sex romps, back in angsty, slow-burn territory again.

Maybe I should aim for a point somewhere in between.

Em, my late father coveted my wife. And she didn't mind the attention. The expression around here of, "You're just like your father," tends toward being a compliment of endearment rather than the, "You're just like your mother!" she (rarely... thank goodness...) gets when doing something undesirable.

Nothing happened, of course, mostly due to distance, but there are frequently qualities in a son - both positive and negative - that are directly passed. I've seen very little of that in mother/daughter situations where I have known both.

I’ve got my own - slightly warped - ideas about motivations. Wait and see.

Stories like that on lit tend toward the domineering father cucking his son, which is... fine. But this anecdote makes me think of a friendly flirtatious relationship where the father never truly believes what he covets is a real possibility, and then son and wife at some point decide, you know what, let's help the old guy out. Could be a fun plotline.

But not mine 😊
