It is often the case that when someone departs it is more because of disappointment and dismay at a general pattern of uncivil behavior by persons who hold themselves up to be members of a supposedly "enlightened" group, rather than specific actions by a particular individual directed at the departee.

I know, and I feel sorry for it happening.
But I also know some people are forced to leave because of implications to their off line live.

I must not be doing a good job of expressing myself. Again, I'm talking not about attacks against oneself, about which I have the same opinion as you. I'm talking about dismay at frequent bouts of incivility that have nothing to do with oneself, especially when displayed in a place that supposedly has "higher standards."

Imagine a bar where the regulars get in regular scream-fights with each other, during which they hurl the vilest, most hurtful insults. Even if I am never the target of these, that is not a place I would care to hang out. I'm not saying AH is anything like that, it's just an extreme scenario to demonstrate the point.

You're making your point very well Rox. I took a month off recently due to being sick of the way things were going around here (I came here to discuss writing and find author friends to expand myself, not to listen to people call each other names about stupid crap that is just opinion to begin with).

I can reiterate that Jammies did not leave due to anyone being mean to her (nor did Mallie). It would be positively un-Jammies like to give someone else that kind of power over her. She, Mallie, and several others I know of have been upset as of late by the rising level of nastiness around here. Some people thrive on it, others do not. It's that simple. We all have jobs, lives, and responsiblities. If coming here makes you unhappy, why would you keep coming back?

Afternoon all...........the newlyweds have returned after visiting the oldies, my sister and Matt Jr. We had a great time, but a lot of driving, and very glad to be home.

School's started up again and I'll have more reliable access to this place. No more worries about avoiding the internet nanny watcher program at the library. I can downloard stories again and read all the new works that I haven't even been able to see for months. I can also start submitting new works and keeping up with the boards a bit better. It may not be much more than a popping in to say hi or bye, but it's nice to know that I can do that again.

I've been out more than in lately due to a herniated disc in the lower back pinching the sciatic nerve running down my right leg. Time and steroids have begun to clear things up. I'll go through a bit of physical therapy and, no doubt, soon be restored to my usual state of manly decrepitude.

It was all a bit frustrating in that staying still, as in sitting at a 'puter or sleeping over two or three hours at a time, was non-negotiable with the pain. About all I could do was take a look in here every now and then and do a little, as in VERY little, rewriting on my first novel.

I've had more fun times in my life. But in comparison to what it might have been, and what others here have gone through...well, you know the drill.

After this quarter however I will no longer have any time constraints, so all will be normal again in ten weeks.
