I used to think it would take 50-100 years for Chirstmas to cease being a major societal event. This year, however, seems like the least "Christmasy" year so far.
Easter has become a minor holiday with little public decoration or celebration. It used to be a major day similar to Christmas in public importance.
Christmas won't die out completely. Many families will still celebrate it in private and there will still be church services, but I predict public decorations and the whole "Holiday Season" will go the way of Easter into the semi-closet within another generation. Most people will pretty much ignore it.
