Impeachment will begin...

If public service is a calling and not a career, term limits are the obvious tweak. Makes you wonder why they weren’t there from the beginning.

I think the juicy retirement is fair compensation for lost income opportunities, though as a self employed private sector person, i do know people who have benefits beyond what they have actually contributed. I choose to think of them like disability claimants with atv’s. Cheats.

Because the Founding Fathers decided that the citizens would only retain good representatives and now they vote for whomever can deliver unto them the largess of the public weal.

Life expectancy at the time. Mother nature applied the term limits.

I don't. Not when we live in a time when the members of the legislature leave with their net worth greater than when they were elected. The whole idea behind those juicy pensions was to prevent them from using their positions for self aggrandizement. Obviously that didn't work.

I'm not sure how, in a system that rewards achievement, you could ever prevent those who rise to high office from achieving wealth in the process.

That said, being fine with a juicy pension doesn't include stuffing your nest along the way.

They could reverse that shit out if the system wanted to, like the concept of tracing in fraud. High office simply needs to include financial trusteeship as a prerequisite to swearing in.

No more honor system; honor system only works on those who have it and the electorate is outgunned in discernment capacity.

People forget the part the Founding Fathers played in getting this country going so badly...

Before you or I were born (or our parents, & on & on), this country was begun. Before anything was set-up, we started with a "Declaration of Independence", & that last word is the key! They were trying to improve what they saw as things the Brits were doing to them that was wrong! It's past about time they start some new law for the country that's survived this long (if you care to say it has)... Start by forcing the country to only elect Presidents that win the election. (Obama was historic for many reasons, but round-about Kavanaugh, TV hosts reminded viewers GWB didn't win the election either.)

I would be fun to see Trumps reaction to being impeached, especially if it's not clear the Senate has his back but I think it would be equally fun if the report came out and said he and his folks are in the clear.
Either way I win cuz it's a slow movie season and I'm mostly caught up on my shows now and need some fresh entertainment.
That being said, they need to get it done before Captain Marvel and End Game come out. Hell, maybe before Glass altho that one is iffy at this point and only one movie in a slow time of year. Once I got some decent entertainment I'm sorta in the not giving a shit mode.

Everything this House passes will be DOA.
They have decided to destroy and marginalize Trump, not to work with him.
In return, instead of rolling over and asking for a belly rub in the usual Republican manner of "compromise," Trump has simply declared, well, okay, then you get nothing either, ever, we control the Senate and I control the veto pen and we'll see you in 2020 as you explain to the independents and moderates why you chose scorched earth policies instead of being wiling to compromise with the other two-thirds of the legislative process.

That seems to be their plan. Pass a bunch of non-sensical bills that are DOA in the senate let alone getting to Trumps desk in order to appeal to their core constituencies in the inner cities. Considering that the majority of our inner cities are barely third world countries I suppose we can call that, 'catering to the shitholes.'

So is the new congress going to go about the peoples business or merely engaged in the US version of political kabuki theater?

^^^^ Whiny little butthurt bitchboys.

We've seen this blueprint before, guys.

House controlled by one party, Senate by another, investigations of the President. Does "but but Clinton" ring any bells?

The only difference is, there appears to be real substance in the allegations against Donald J Trump and his henchmen.

Prediction: no impeachment, but two years of gridlock. Also, no wall/fence/curtain.

Just like 1998.

Democrats want to impeach me because they cannot win in 2020

President Donald Trump reacted to Democrat calls for his impeachment on Friday, touting his record achievements in the first two years of office.

“How do you impeach a president who has won perhaps the greatest election of all time?” Trump asked on Twitter, adding, “They only want to impeach me because they know they can’t win in 2020, too much success!”

Democrats took power in the House of Representatives on Thursday, boasting that they would impeach Trump.

“We’re gonna impeach the motherfucker,” newly sworn-in Democrat House Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) said on Thursday.

Obstruction of Justice.

Trump has repeatedly tried to interfere in the Russia investigation, and he has admitted as much—that’s a textbook case of obstructing justice.

And, Trump being a hopelessly pathological liar, there are probably other charges brewing based on his written responses to Mueller.

It tickles me that Lit Deplorables think Mueller is going to take forever to issue his report. They are still in denial about what took place with that investigation in December, what took place with Trump's ejection of Mattis and capitulation to Putin, and what took place in the last election. Like Trump, they think they can simply lie about reality and make it go away.

Mueller, a Republican, understands more than anybody how unhinged Trump is. He will not delay.

As I pointed out in another thread, "Mueller is just about to wrap up and deliver his report within weeks" has been a common, and wrong, narrative for about a year and a half now.

I think he wanted to wait until after the midterms and after the new Congress was seated.

Your timeline is off.

The Democrats want continual and never-ending investigations in order to keep a black cloud over Trump's head as we near 2020 and Mueller will happily play along by investigating every serious charge to come out of the House oversight committees with proper due diligence and his team of Democrat investigators.

They will talk a big game about the impending impeachment to please and placate the radical Progressive wing of their party, but they fear the Clinton effect too, where impeachment blew up in the faces of the Republicans who could not convict; all it did was motivate Democrats and moderates to vote against Republicans (and by way of ancillary effect for Clinton).

I really cannot see a similar voter backlash emerging in 2020.

Term limits would go a long way to fix a greater portion of the problem. As you have pointed out it's become a game and the game is preservation of power, personal power and the perq's that go along with it. Oh, and strip them of their juicy retirement plans as well. Make certain they're going to have to live in the world they create.

Any proposal intended to replace career politicians with "citizen legislators" is a very bad idea.

--installing a hack as AG to help obstruct justice
--betraying America (treason?) by undermining US intelligence and being Putin's puppet (He should be impeached and removed from office for Helsinki alone)
--attacking US Law Enforcement
--numerous lies and deceptions to the American people in furtherance of obstruction
--violation of Emoluments clause
--dangling pardons and witness tampering
--conspiracy with a foreign power during election
--kidnapping kids and then losing them because no plans to reunite
--undermining national security by secret meetings with Rusdians, using unsecured personal phone, giving away US intel in Oval Office, and destroying NATO alliances at behest of Putin
--dereliction of duty by refusing to enforce Congressionally mandated sanctions

on what grounds.??

I'm amazed at how many of you people are ok with 45 making a mockery of our nation.

on what grounds.??

1. Bad hair.

2. Too high an opinion of himself.

3. Too much money.

4. Wife too hot.

You know, the usual reasons for wanting to destroy a successful white man in America in the 21st century.

Maaaybe. I still see him picking off more of The Donald's inner circle first. Stone, Jared, Junior...

I just don't get those that hate Trump. Hell the man is All American, he does things for this country. Most of the politicians in Washington are damn crooks. He has setup inner city programs for Minorities to have small businesses, he is trying to keep illegals out of this country - their welfare alone is over 5 million a month. He has helped with payroll taxes on small business - I own one I know. He has tried to get rid of the way overpriced Obama care. The elected people we have sent to washington from our states and districts are on the take and crooks. They get elected and go to Washington and become millionaires.

For years and years we the people have wanted to get rid of politicians in Washington DC on the take and now we have a businessman, now some hate him? Hell it must be the ones drawing govt benefits that are afraid he might make them go to work. I know the democrats just want to be in power and give out bennies to those for their votes, they don't give a damn about them, just the votes. Democrats want to completely do away with the middle class.

Crazy

BTW - Mueller has set himself up big time. He will go down in flames because he has nothing.
