Well, there are lots of "go to jail" options on Trump, but a reality just sits there, waiting for him. He was fingered by the courts for the exact same crime his former lawyer, Cohen, is serving time for. This isn't a future possibility. The judgment is just sitting there waiting for him for when he walks (if he does, rather than getting carried on a stretcher or in a coffin) from the White House. Like impeachment, that much is already done. And there's a whole smorgasbord of selections on indictments and lawsuits just marinating out there waiting for him as well.

And there's not a damn thing the Trumpettes can do about that.

Republican Joni Ernst tells Mitch McConnell to start working with Democrats on impeachment

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) is another endangered Republican running for reelection in 2020. She joined with Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) in complaining about the process of impeachment unfolding in the U.S. Senate.

In a Politico report Monday, Ernst told Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) it was time to start working with Democrats instead of against them.

McConnell was once confident he could get rid of the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. As more information becomes available, however, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Anyone who understands the constitution and has a somewhat legal background understands there is a ground swell bubbling underneath the Obama admin. There is going to be prosecutions but not the ones every dems thinks. Horowitz shed some light on Obama's weaponization of his DOJ and FBI. There was a well orchestrated covert attempt to sabotage Trump's political campaign and when that didn't work a contrived plan using fraudulent FISA warrants as a reason to appoint a special counsel to engage in a criminal investigation that lacked substance and based on fabricated evidence. The mueller investigation failed to investigate the DNC, the legality of steele dossier, failure to include exculpatory evidence, leaks from Comey, FBI glossing over Clinton's violation of sensitive material protocol 18 US code 1924 as well as the DNC/Clinton paying a foreign agent to interfere with a political opponent and much much more. These criminal violations will lead to the dismantling of the FISC and prison time for some. Durham is now investigating criminal referrals and Comey has already been referred for criminal prosecution. The Ukraine is smack in the middle. If the senate pushes for witnesses then all lot of people are going down, Possibly Vindman brothers, Schiff, Yovanovitch, the Bidens, Clinton and a whole host of others. Well see. McConnell refused, but according to Bloomberg News’ Laura Litvan, there are now enough Republican Senators joining with Democrats to force a vote on whether or not to call witnesses and allow additional documents.

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), who is retiring at the end of his term, joins GOP Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitt Romney – plus 45 Democrats and 2 Independents – to reach, Litvan says, the “magic number” of 51 Senators who want “a guaranteed vote on whether to call witnesses or more documents later in the Trump impeachment trial.”

Alexander said he DOESN’T know how he will vote.

“We should hear the case and not dismiss it. We should hear the arguments and ask our questions. And then we should vote on whether we need additional evidence. And I think that's a fair and impartial way to go about it."

Giuliani letter proves Ukraine scheme was about helping Trump personally and was not in the public interest

The House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday transmitted a treasure-trove of new evidence to the House Judiciary Committee.

The digital files, stored on two flash drives, include records from Lev Parnas, the indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who is President Donald Trump’s private defense attorney.

Eric Lipton, a New York Times investigative reporter, flagged on letter in particular.

The letter was from Giuliani to Volodymyr Zelensky and was dated May 10th — after Zelensky won the election on April 21st, but before he was sworn in on May 20th.

In the letter, Giuliani makes clear that he is working for Trump’s personal benefit, not the United States.

As former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch testified about the successful smear campaign engineered against her by Trump allies and explained how intimidating it was to learn that Trump told the president of Ukraine that she was "bad news" and is "going to go through some things," Trump decided she didn't feel quite intimidated enough. So he tweeted more smears against her while she was testifying.


Whether this is technically witness tampering, it's undeniably appalling. Even on Fox News, Ken Starr called Trump's attack on Yovanovitch during her testimony "extraordinarily poor judgment."

What it shows - as does all of the former ambassador's testimony, along with lots of other evidence we have seen - is that Trump has been running a thugocracy, one in which the president talks and acts like a Mafiosi and so do the people who have the greatest influence over him.

What we're also seeing is that the people who understand Trump knew exactly how to manipulate him. Knowing that he values personal loyalty far more than competence or the interests of the United States, all they had to do was keep telling him that Yovanovitch wasn't loyal to him, and she'd be gone.

"How could our system fail like this?" Yovanovitch asked in her opening statement Friday. "How is it that foreign corrupt interests could manipulate our government?"

Thought she didn't say it herself, the answer is two words: Donald Trump.

Corrupt interests (some foreign, some domestic) could manipulate our government because the president is himself corrupt. And insecure, and vindictive and someone who talks and acts like he's running an organized crime family.

Stunningly, as Yovanovitch was calmly explaining how all this happened, Trump let everyone know what a thug he is, trying to intimidate her one more time. It's probably too late for that, though; all he did was remind everyone who he is.

On Tuesday night, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence released a long-awaited tranche of documents related to their investigation of Lev Parnas, the Ukrainian-Floridian man accused by federal prosecutors of myriad campaign finance violations, crimes related to fraud, and conspiracies along with his partner Igor Fruman.

The duo, of course, are also infamous for serving as hatchet men in the Ukraine on behalf of President Donald Trump’s ”personal attorney” Rudy Giuliani—as part of a semi-successful scheme to remove then-ambassador Marie Yovanovitch and peddle influence under the imprimatur of Trump’s own White House. In the end, despite the diplomatic scalp, those business ventures turned to dust and the least of the participants are facing federal charges. Giuliani is also in the crosshairs of an investigation by the Southern District of New York (SDNY).

Up to now, the moving and shaking in Ukraine has been described with the soft euphemism of “shadow diplomacy.” But the documents reveal something quite a bit darker than that.

‘Uninterested in evidence’: Embattled Susan Collins blasted for dismissing threats to Ukraine Ambassador Yovanovitch

U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) is once again under fire, this time for discounting and dismissing just-revealed threats to then-Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch. The House of Representatives was just given intensely disturbing texts from indicted Giuliani associate Lev Parnas, which allegedly show him and a Trump donor now running for Congress.

Those texts are being described as threats to Yovanovitch. Some are saying they appear to be threats to her security, illegal surveillance, and even possible discussion of a “hit job” against her.

“I wonder why the House did not put that into the record and it’s only now being revealed,” she said, according to CNN’s Manu Raju, who described Collins’ response as throwing “cold water” on the new evidence.

He adds that when she was told the new information was just handed to the House, she said: “well doesn’t that suggest that the House did an incomplete job then?”

‘Impeaching Donald John Trump for High Crimes and Misdemeanors’: Watch as Senate trial opens with ‘Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye’

Just after 12:00 noon Thursday, January 16, the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump opened. Many watched history in the making as newly-appointed House impeachment managers carrying a wooden box with the Articles of Impeachment walked into the Senate chamber.

The president pro tempore, Senator Chuck Grassley, opened the session, and lead impeachment manager, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff read the Resolution declaring the managers and authorizing the conveyance of the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.

“President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States,” Chairman Schiff read.

Chief Justice John Roberts will swear in all Senators this week, and next week the Senate will take up the Articles of Impeachment.

The man who taught Constitutional Law to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts expects him to vote to allow witnesses if he needs to cast a tie-breaking vote while presiding over President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate.

Prof. Laurence Tribe was interviewed by MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Thursday. In addition to having argued three-dozen cases before the highest court, Tribe has taught at Harvard Law for 50 years and even taught the chief justice.

“Well, he was very smart,” Tribe replied. “He’s very thoughtful, he cares about the institution.”

“If he is asked to issue a subpoena, I think he will use his power to do it,” Tribe said.

“He will at least rule, if the evidence is relevant, that it ought to be heard, but he knows he can be overruled by a majority of the Senate,” he explained.

Will he use his influence to speed up the cases Trump has under appeal, so that this will not interfere with swift Justice?

On Thursday’s edition of CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin broke down a key reason why indicted Giuliani associate Lev Parnas hasn’t quite gotten across the severity of his accusations against President Donald Trump to the American people.

“Jeff, what do you think of Parnas as a witness?” asked Cooper.

“He has a distinctive style. He’s very deadpan, very low-key,” said Toobin. “You somehow don’t realize how extraordinary story he is telling. The proprietor of a company called Fraud Guarantee, and he is going to the leadership of the government of Ukraine and saying, unless you announce an investigation of the Biden family, are you not getting the money that Congress has authorized. you are not getting the visit from the president and you are not getting an Oval Office visit. ‘Contempt of Congress is illegal’ declared one of Trump’s newest attorneys – just days before the House voted to impeach

One of the lesser-known names on the new list of lawyers President Donald Trump approved to defend him during the Senate impeachment trial delivered a damning remark last month – damning for President Trump, that is.

“Contempt of Congress is illegal,” said Robert Ray, who served as the final Whitewater independent counsel after Ken Starr.

The Washington Post’s Paul Waldman and Greg Sargent report Ray made the stunning remark – one of the Articles of Impeachment essentially is contempt of Congress, or technically, obstruction of Congress – to The Daily Signal, a right wing website run by the conservative Heritage Foundation.
