Impeachment Thread

Things are indeed moving fast now. As expected, Speaker Pelosi’s game is coming to an end. Just in from Bloomberg:

“Senate Democrats Dianne Feinstein and Joe Manchin say it’s time for Pelosi to send the impeachment articles to the Senate.”

👍👍

Translation: "The Senate's two biggest DINOs regurgitated a Republican talking point." Big deal.

Democrats urging their inept leader to follow through with the impeachment is a "republican talking point" ???

LOL that's great shit.

Not today, right?

I see that republican senators have been insulted by trump by refusing to justify his reasons for the assassination. You'd think he'd be trying to keep them inside and not alienate them.

Shhhhh. Don't interrupt his brilliance.

GOP senators tell Trump not to add right-wing congressman to his impeachment defense team

As the impeachment of President Donald Trump moves forward, the president is turning to right-wing Republican members of Congress who defended him in the hearings leading up to the vote to authorize articles of impeachment. But Senators are cautioning him against it.

According to the Washington Post, GOP senators are telling the president to reconsider turning the opening statements into a reality show. House Republicans are clamoring to join the legal team, something Trump is excited about, given they defended him so loudly during the House hearings.

IOW, keep your monkeys out of the Senate, Donnie. :)

Yes, Feinstein, Manchin, Coons, and Blumenthal all broke with Pelosi this week. We can expect a trial l starting or dismissal coming within the next 10 days.

Last I checked, they were all senators. It's not up to them to tell a member of the other house of Congress to do anything.

Shh, you sharing secrets on the makeup of U.S. government institutions with the Russians.

YDB95 writes: "Last I checked, they were all senators. It's not up to them to tell a member of the other house of Congress to do anything."

Yes, and as you have stated on MANY occasions, YDB95 - ONLY the U.S. Senate can remove a president from office! The House of Representatives has NO SUCH POWER!

And if the House foolishly goes ahead with an impeachment vote without enough evidence for a conviction, they'll look STUPID if they then forward those articles of impeachment to the senate, knowing full well that they lack the necessary evidence to see it through! It would probably be best, in that instance, if the Speaker just acted like nothing whatsoever had happened and keeps the articles to herself!

KeithD writes: "Shh, you sharing secrets on the makeup of U.S. government institutions with the Russians."

Are you aware, Keith, that Russia's ally IRAN has just shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane loaded with Canadians? Nobody is worried, however, as Canada's Prime Minister is a leader like Barack Obama (meaning that he will probably look the other way and do nothing!) Now if that had been an American airliner with Trump in the White House, there would be hell to pay right now!

Speaker Pelosi should put out a statement announcing that she is ready and willing to withhold the articles of impeachment from the Senate for as long a period as Mitch McConnell withheld President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, unless McConnell agrees to a fair impeachment trial including witness testimony and documents and any other pertinent evidence. Mitch McConnell should be the last person whining about Nancy Pelosi playing politics with one of the solemn responsibilities spelled out in our nation’s Constitution, and reminding the world of how he held up the Garland nomination will cut that nonsense right to the bone.

President Obama announced his pick of Merrick Garland on March 16, 2016. Donald Trump was not inaugurated until January 20, 2017. That made it 310 days that McConnell blocked the Garland nomination.

Donald Trump was impeached December 18, 2019. 310 Days would take us to October 23, 2020 — less than two weeks before the 2020 General Election.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

- The Oath We Take

As a Senator, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republican Senators took an oath to support the Constitution — not Donald Trump.

Yet they want to argue that it is Pelosi and the Democratic Party who is politicizing impeachment, rather than treating it with the serious gravity that it truly encompasses — we have a corrupt, unhinged and tyrannical President, it is in the country’s best interests to force his removal from office. Donald Trump and the rest of the Republican Party would have you believe that as President, he can do whatever he wants and break any laws he wants, like a king or emperor — but this goes against the very nature of the Constitution on which this country was founded. And indeed, the Constitution includes the very mechanisms needed to remove such an occupant from office. That is why Speaker Pelosi should be applauded for doing damn near everything in her power, to serve the interests of this country, uphold the values of the Constitution, and ensure the Senate holds a fully prosecuted and unbiased impeachment trial.

Senator McConnell has invited her to do just that. He told her he’s happy to get on with the business of confirming more judges. Looks like she’s the brink of caving though. Possibly tomorrow in a late Friday news dump to minimize her public humiliation. The trial will start next week. Senators Warren, Sanders, and Booker are not happy with Nancy’s timing, but Biden, Bloomberg and Mayor Pete are laughing their asses off.

Here’s how Nancy Pelosi outsmarted Mitch McConnell over impeachment rules despite an ‘amazingly weak hand’

Nancy's game was to stretch things out to jack Donnie's blood pressure to stroke levels and keep the issue on the front page.

That aside, I'm surprised that Adam hasn't called a hearing to discuss another Article for the PeeResidnt starting a war with out approval. He was supposed ot notify Congressional Leaders and didn't. He was supposed to have an "Imminent Threat" but has been unable to cough one up. Unconstitutional acts demand impeachment of a President. Who/what does he think he is?

WIth this staring them in the face why has not the House Acted? Dem's in disarray?:)

Man, I really need to get one of my Republican friends (and yes, they do exist) to explain how they can read Democrats' minds. Must be nice!

Your inanity is galactic. The House is being led by a mentally defective has been. She doesn't have a clue what she is doing.

"They have no defense for what Trump did. The tide has turned. And they know it. He will be impeached."

-Republican, Joe Walsh

Remember that on Oct. 3, Trump was asked by a reporter: “What exactly did you hope Zelensky would do about the Bidens after your phone call?” Trump replied: “Well, I would think that, if they were honest about it, they’d start a major investigation into the Bidens.” (He also went on to brazenly demand that “China should start an investigation into the Bidens.”) Trump delivered the same message to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in their July 25 phone call. The rough transcript has Zelensky asking for weapons and Trump responding, “I would like you to do us a favor though,” before going on to ask for an investigation of Joe Biden and conspiracy theories involving the 2016 election.

Because Trump impeached himself with his own words, the only defense Republicans can muster is to simply ignore the evidence. “The Daily Show” aired a hilarious segment in which Trump supporters repeat his mantra of “read the transcript” before admitting that they actually haven’t read it.

Republican politicians are just as egregious in dodging inconvenient truths. On Sunday, CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Sen. Rand Paul (R.-Ky.) whether “you would be okay with a president, say, Elizabeth Warren, asking a foreign government to investigate her top Republican rival?” Paul replied, in a masterpiece of sophistry, that the premise of the question “is completely untrue,” because Trump did not “call up and say, investigate my rival.” Instead, Paul claimed, Trump said to “investigate a person.” So Paul’s defense boils down to the fact that Trump demanded an investigation of “Biden” rather than a “rival.” This makes as much sense as Republicans arguing, as they did all day Wednesday, that Democrats are wasting too much time on impeachment — and also that they are concluding the investigation too soon. Both can’t be true.

Today’s Republicans echo the late Rep. Earl Landgrebe, who during Watergate famously said, “Don’t confuse with me with the facts. I’ve got a closed mind.” They ignore their obligations to the Constitution and the country. How can they possibly pretend that the author of the bizarre, rambling letter that the White House sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) on Tuesday — a screed full of lies, rage and self-pity — is fit to hold the nation’s highest office? Pelosi’s speech on the House floor to kick off the impeachment debate, striking a somber, dignified and patriotic tone, reflects a contrast between the two parties that is deeply unflattering to the GOP.

Contrary to Republican accusations, Democrats are not pursuing partisan advantage by impeaching Trump. If politics were all that mattered, they would never have proceeded with impeachment because of the risk of a political backlash. That is, in fact, why Pelosi refused to move forward with impeachment even after special counsel Robert S. Mueller III documented numerous examples of obstruction of justice. She was finally compelled to act after Trump was discovered trying to solicit foreign election interference — again.

Even as the impeachment proceedings continue, the president’s personal lawyer is continuing to solicit help from shady Ukrainian politicians.

Rudolph Giuliani has practically taped an “Impeach Me” sign on Trump’s back, yet Republicans pretend not to notice. By encouraging Giuliani’s escapades as he is being impeached, Trump makes clear that he considers himself above the law. Republicans evidently agree. Democrats do not.

lotkin and other vulnerable Democrats who vote for impeachment because the evidence compels it are profiles in courage. Republicans who vote against impeachment despite the evidence are profiles in cowardice. Don’t speak of the two parties as if they were somehow equal. The Democrats are upholding the rule of law; Republicans are undermining it.

Poor Adam Schiff wasn’t notified. Soleimani wasn’t notified either. Oh well. Shit happens. Was there an imminent threat? We’ll never know. He’s dead. Sorry for your loss guys.

Sorry for OUR loss? Is that really what you think of your fellow Americans who don't share your politics? If so, maybe you at least shouldn't be so surprised by our lack of respect for Trump et al.

Fuck! Read the US Constitution! Granted you Russians lack such a document
The President had no imminent threat
He can’t prove that ??
His VP said it was in response for shot that just happened
Well, then ask for permission to use the military WE paid to create!
Granted Trump wanted to rent them out to the Saudis. WTF!!
He should be impeached AGAIN for “wagging the dog”

You all talk about this economy!
The rich are getting hella richer on paper
Have you looked at our deficit lately?!
Conservatives?? Bullshit!!!!

Thank you for bringing this up again. Yes the BIDENs should be thoroughly investigated for their activities in Ukraine and China. Hopefully the upcoming Durham Report will shed some light on these Democrat shenanigans.

‘The cover-up will be televised’: NYT columnist reveals the flaw in the GOP’s impeachment strategy

Cracks emerged in Donald Trump’s Republican stonewall when Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) announced she was working with a “small group” of GOP senators who want to allow witnesses to testify during the president’s impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate.

For analysis, MSNBC anchor Ari Melber interviewed New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg on Friday.

She explained the political implications for Republicans not allowing a fair trial.

“I do think that at the very least, this cover-up will be televised, right, the process of the cover-up,” Goldberg said.

“The arguments against letting the country hear from, you know, hear from John Bolton and hear from Mick Mulvaney — hear from Rudy Giuliani, for that matter, who seems to want to testify,” she explained.

“You know, at least that will be public at the very, very least, right, so that the country can hear about what this president doesn’t want them to hear,” Goldberg concluded.

What is your basis for your belief that there's anything to be investigated? Because Dear Leader said so?
