Lindsey Graham inundated with mockery after whining that Pelosi is ‘persecuting’ Trump by demanding a fair Senate trial

You would think that Ms Lindsey would understand that the Impeachment is like an indictment, and the "Fair Trial" and defence is conducted in the Senate, after Impeachment. Did he flunk that in Con Law 101?:)

All McConnell has to do is to come in on the first business day of the year and pass a Senate rule that requires an immediate trial upon the publishing of the House vote for impeachment in the Congressional Record, which has already been done. The Senate has the sole power of trying the impeachment, Nancy has zero authority to say anything about it now that the vote has been reported.

I suspect that when Fancy Nancy refers to a "fair trial" she means a conviction. Any other result she would call a fraud or similar term, and she might even try fomenting another impeachment.

That’s Trump’s MO. He has often done that sort of thing in the past. Pelosi has not, and isn’t likely to.

Lindsey Graham has become famous for being the whiniest bitch in U.S. politics.

Imagine a trial where the victim and the police aren't allowed to present evidence, and the jury foreman coordinates everything with the defendant and the defense attorney.

Yeah, that's exactly how Mitch McConnell is asserting that he'll run Donald Trump's impeachment trial.

And if McConnell isn't able to do all of that, Graham is going to whine like a 5-year old girl who just got grounded and can't go to Disneyland.

When has Trump ever tried to get himself convicted of anything? Pelosi hasn't either, but this is an unusual situation.

Secretive Victoria writes: "Republicans are utterly lacking in credibility. The same Republican Senators who refused to interview Merrick Garland for 293 days and who are currently sitting on over 400 bills that were passed in the House, are suddenly outraged that Donald Trump's impeachment is taking too long."

Merrick Garland was never going to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate - his nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Obama was a waste of everybody's time, and pretty much everybody knew it when he put it forward.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, however, said that impeaching President Trump was of paramount importance - but then, after the Democrats passed it (on a purely partisan vote), the speaker changed her mind. It's like the Democratic Party has accepted the fact that they have no case, and so they're shelving the whole thing. It's not unlike a grand jury indicting someone, but then not forwarding their indictment to the courts. It's the equivalent of a dismissal for lack of evidence.

A failed impeachment effort isn't the kind of thing that sits well with the American people, who dislike seeing our government wasting time & money on something that's going nowhere. I mean, first the Mueller Report and now this? It's the kind of thing that could very well cost Pelosi her speakership!

New evidence shows why Senate must hear from John Bolton and Mick Mulvaney on Ukraine scandal

Newly revealed evidence shows President Donald Trump’s efforts to pressure Ukraine to help his re-election campaign threw his administration into chaos — and ended only after a whistleblower revealed the scheme.

The New York Times interviewed dozens of current and former administration officials, congressional aides and others, and examined previously undisclosed emails and documents, to map out an account of the 84-day period from Trump’s first inquiry about withholding Ukraine aid and his decision to release the funds.

Trump’s demands set senior administration officials against one another as they expressed alarm over the scheme or worked to carry out the president’s orders — which formed the basis of his impeachment by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Then, on Sept. 11 — the day after Bolton was forced out of the White House — the president suddenly released the aid.

“I have no doubt about why the president allowed the assistance to go forward,” said Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY). “He got caught.”

They must hear from witnesses because the Democrats are managing to engrain in voters' minds that any Senate action on the impeachment isn't valid unless they do. That doesn't mean they will; it just means that history has them by the short hairs on this issue.

KeithD writes: "They must hear from witnesses because the Democrats are managing to engrain in voters' minds that any Senate action on the impeachment isn't valid unless they do."

Former Vice President Joe Biden has told the Des Moines Register newspaper that he will NOT testify in a U.S. Senate trial, even if he is subpoenaed to do so. Biden & his son Hunter do NOT want to testify under oath about they & their family's money-making deals in the Ukraine.

"That doesn't mean they will; it just means that history has them by the short hairs on this issue."

Once the House of Representatives has voted to impeach the president, the articles of impeachment are supposed to be immediately forwarded to the U.S. Senate for a trial, but Speaker Pelosi wants to the avoid the embarrassment that the House Democrats will suffer when their entire case collapses in that legislative body, and so she's purposefully neglecting to do so. It's the equivalent of a grand jury indicting somebody for a crime, but then choosing NOT to forward the case to the courts over a lack of sufficient evidence.

Oh pshaw, Dump.

Nancy is just holding the indictments so the Rethugs can have a Happy New Year w/o having to convict the Trumpster right away.

Besides it gives the Senate some time to prance before the press and declare their undying love of ... ah democracy and free markets?

Most don't think impeachment was valid!

Nancy Pelosi does NOT think it's valid! If she did, the Speaker of the House would immediately forward her articles of impeachment to the U.S. Senate for a trial! Pelosi, Schiff, & Nadler have all come to the ultimate conclusion that they don't have a serious case, and are therefore keeping what the House passed to themselves.

The Trump-haters want this president gone, only they're currently losing faith in their party's sorry batch of 2020 Democratic Party presidential to stop the inevitable re-election of this president next November. Impeachment was an act of desperation more than anything else, but without the necessary political muscle in the U.S. Senate to carry it through their party is doomed to humiliation should this thing ever actually go to a trial! No, it's NOT a valid proposition.

I don't think so, Jack.

Nancy was smart enough right from the very beginning to know that impeaching Trump would be a dead end, but the pressure she was receiving from the less-intelligent House Democrats (e.g. Alexandria Ocasion-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, etc.) got too great, and to save herself from being ousted as speaker by her own party she relented, and gave into their demands. But now that's it's passed, she wants to avoid the humiliation of a U.S. Senate vote vindicating the president, and so she's going to quietly SHELVE it and pretend it never happened.

Her party is filled with legislators as dumb as fence posts.

No, Keith - the Democrats are the party of the LEFT - it's a designation that dates back to French Revolutionary times, and where the delegates sat in the French Assembly!

Keep telling yourself that Dump. Rest easy that the Trumpster will be defended by Gym Jordan and Lindsey Graham, both fine upstanding attorneys with tons of litigation experience, and if they get into trouble, Rudy will fly to assist them! Hoorah!

There's not going to be any U.S. Senate trial, Jack.

Rumor has it that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi got intoxicated shortly after the impeachment articles were passed and then LOST them! Her staff members were later spotted searching in dumpsters all over the capital, but to no avail. They're gone, and there's NO WAY she's going to now go before the television cameras and admit what happened!

I supposed she could possibly call the House Democrats back and ask them to pass the articles all over again, citing some technicality, claiming perhaps that Adam Schiff or Jerry Nadler misspelled some key words or something else along those lines. But it will be embarrassing either way! Chances are she just pretends that impeachment never happened!

Maybe she'll say that unless all of the Senate Republicans RECUSE themselves as jurors, there won't be any chance of getting a conviction, and so she's "taking her ball and going home!" A bit childish, perhaps, but the Trump-hating media will do its best to make that sound reasonable.

At least you're a Russian bot with a sense of humor. Your Russian bot friend DawnONightandDay should take a lesson from you.

jomar writes: "At least you're a Russian bot with a sense of humor. Your Russian bot friend DawnONightandDay should take a lesson from you."

Yes, I'll admit it, jomar - Russia's President Putin paid me to post that!

Back in November of 2016, Russian agents showed up at my door and forced me to vote for Donald Trump! I told them that I supported Hillary Clinton for president, as she would continue the emasculated, pro-transgendered America that President Obama had built for us during his eight-years in office! But the Ruskies said that wasn't going to happen, and they twisted my arm nearly out of its socket until I relented!

They ALSO told me that President Putin wanted voter-photo-ID laws passed here in the United States, to keep Mexican illegals from crossing our southern border and participating in American democracy! Apparently, Putin sees Mexican nationals as OPPOSING Russia's agenda for this country, and so he opposes them casting ballots here!

At the same time, President Putin miscalculated regarding President Trump's support for his ally, Iran! Apparently the Russians expected Trump to ship money to the Iranian government the same way that President Obama had, and they're deeply upset that the Trump administration is instead squeezing Iran's balls with tougher economic sanctions! Perhaps in 2020 the Russians will reverse-course and help the Democrats? No... wait... that will be impossible as America doesn't have a weak, incompetent leader in the White House as we did in November of '16 who will openly permit Russian meddling.

Donald Trump may have given Congress another reason to impeach him and, fittingly, it’s in a tweet.

On Sunday, the president posted a series of tweets quoting evangelical pastor Robert Jeffress who said on Fox News that if Trump were removed from office, the nation would suffer “a Civil War-like fracture” that it would “never heal” from.

The tweet was condemned by many Democratic politicians as well as Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, who said it was “beyond repugnant.”

It could also be grounds for impeachment, according to Harvard Law professor John Coates, who responded to the president’s tweet with a little bit of constitutional law.

there 6 members of my family who won't vote for q fucking dem ever again!!!EVER !!!

They can impeach Trump one-hundred times, Allison, but Nancy Pelosi won't forward any of them to the U.S. Senate, so why bother?

The only fractures are those growing within the Democratic Party, as they remain leaderless with nobody in charge. But all of these stupid impeachment votes have united Trump's base like nothing ever has before! Pelosi's NEVER going to send any of this silliness to the U.S. Senate for a trial because she's trying to save her job as Speaker of the House, which is currently in peril!

Before it's all over, there will be MILLIONS of Democrats abandoning their party over the time & money they've wasted trying to remove Donald Trump from office! All of these unsuccessful impeachment efforts are an open admission of their failure & incompetence!
