I do believe the lady is correct, that was simply someone trying to start a conversation. I'm not a fan of small talk, but engaging retail workers is a courtesy. As someone who worked in retail, your attitude there would've made me quit. And if you think that's righteous, then aside from being an asshole, you should probably just shop online.
