I'm a racist!

*ring door bell*

"Hello DVS!
Sounds like a party is going on here ... may I come in?"

:D

Keeping my finger crossed!

:rose:
Damn, I heard the door bell ring but I went to the door, but nobody was there. Is someone playing tricks on me? The next time I go to the door, will I find a flaming bag of pooh?

So far, the urine samples were both a hit. And the place that wants me part time has asked me to come to work. But, because they now tell me I will be working afternoons and evenings (they never told me this before today) I've had to tell them I might not be able to take the job.

I told them I'm waiting for the background check of the full time job to be finalized and when that happens, that schedule will conflict with the schedule they have me down for.

I asked if there could e a compromise and they said only to a point because there are no more spaces open to move me to. So I told them I probably wouldn't be able to take the job. The HR lady told me to go ahead and come to work for them until my other job is confirmed. She said they might lose out when that job is confirmed, but at least I'd have a job if the full time background doesn't pan out.

I thought that was very nice of them, and I'll take them up on that offer. So I start working for them tomorrow. I have a feeling it might be only for one day, but that's one day of pay that I wouldn't have if they thought otherwise. I must be sure to tell them that I appreciate their kind gesture of letting me work for a couple of days, just in case. You don't see that kind of thing much, these days.

By the way, I thought I'd mentioned this, but I can't find the post. Maybe I just said it to someone in an email.

Anyway, I told the full time employer the whole story about my racism situation. I thought I should be totally honest, partly because I don't like to lie and partly because they are going to give me a gun and I don't want anybody doubting their decision after the fact. And I want this job so I don't want any background coming out later or something seeming funny and forcing me to lose the job down the road.

I also told them I have both of my former supervisors as well as the client of the bank I worked for to give recommendations, and to back up my story. That is a big point in my favor because all three agree with me that the situation was total bull.

And the two supervisors are still working for the company in question and the client is very powerful in the bank he works for so he won't just go around saying things like that if he doesn't believe them to be true.

I gave this possible employer those names and phone numbers this morning and this afternoon, the client emailed me that they called him and he gave me an excellent recommendation. Life is looking better all the time.

On a bit of a side note, I went to visit them, today. There is also a very nice black woman who works in the building. I went up to see her today, too. She said she had been wondering where I had been moved to. I told her I was fired. She thought I was kidding. She asked why and I said because I was labeled a racist. Again she thought I was kidding.

After I calmed her down, she said if I ever need a character reference I need not hesitate to call on her. And I think she would be a very good one, too. She can surely tell a racist when she meets one and I'm glad I have someone like her to take up for me. I didn't ask her. She offered it to me. She even hugged me when I left. How many racists do you think get hugs from pretty black ladies?

Also, I found out that when I left, the Sergeant below me got my job, which is a normal thing to happen. But, they then wanted applications for the job he moved from which is the second Sergeant. Two people applied for the job and one later backed out.

Unfortunately for all who still work there, the one guy left there, from the group who said I made racist comments was given the job. So this guy actually benefited from his lies about me because he now makes at least $3 more an hour than he did before. Of course, nobody, my supervisors, the client or the new first Sergeant are very thrilled about it. And they are all going to be watching how he does, and just waiting for his first fuck up.

And that might not be long, because he doesn't have the calm temperament that you need when dealing with the public who venture out into the night in a city's downtown streets. More than once I found him visibly upset when talking to a drunk or some homeless guy who had gotten under his skin by saying something to him.

He takes things personally and that's never a good thing. There will come a time when he will either overstep his authority or mouth off to someone and get his ass fired or maybe even get himself hurt by acting the tough guy.

When dealing with the unknown personality:
Treat everybody with respect, no matter who they are or how they are treating you. If someone is cursing at you, remain calm. If you stoop to their level, you are no better than they are and you will never be able to calm a violent situation down.

When dealing with the homeless, you must understand they are no less than you, they just don't have a place to live. Of course you are required to do your job, but that doesn't mean you can use your position to treat them like scum or any less of a human than you are.

Explain to them what they are doing is against the rules and tell them you're sorry but it's your job to escort them off of the property. I've always explained that I don't enjoy forcing them out into the cold, but because I could get into trouble or maybe lose my job, I have to enforce the rules.

Only if they decide to challenge your position do you need to call for help. Let them hear you on the radio as you request back up. 99% of the time, once you have done that, they know you aren't backing down. Then, they will most likely decide to leave. You have not treated them badly and they know it. And they will also remember it.

Stay calm and in control of your temper or a bad situation will only get worse. And bad situations can quickly turn into dangerous situations.

Sorry about the security lesson. But now you all know much more than this new supervisor/Sergeant does. Scary, isn't it.

This is a great birthday present for myself. Now, if I could only get a woman to come to my door and ring my bell. That would be quite the deal for sure.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you have found a way to come out of it, without feeling hostile towards minorities in general. Because of my ordeal, I've seen myself changing and have tried to keep my head straight about it.

It's only a few who do such things and it isn't because they are members of a certain race. The government has entitlements in place, and unless/until there are stricter guidelines in force, there will always be some who use the entitlement to their advantage.

Um...is there a reason this picture looks phallic to me?

Because George Washington was the FATHER of our country! :nana:

(The north escalator down into the Dupont Circle metro station here is sometimes referred to as the Martha Washington Monument, because it's basically a gaping hole descending into the earth...yeeeeeah.)

OK, this is starting to get scary. I got call today about interviewing for an even better job than the one I just got. I'd be a city government employee in a suburb of this city, working out of city hall. Part of my job would be interacting with the fire and police departments.

I won't go into more detail about the job mainly because I don't think I'll get it. But I'm one of four individuals they are interviewing. And if I don't get the job, I'm still happy with the one I've got.

This is NOT how life is suppose to be...at least not my life. But, the job is a very interesting job and I know I could fit right in without much trouble. It's kind of in-between the computer jobs and the security jobs I've had. I'd use experience from both areas. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I've had to sign a confidentiality agreement with the U. S. government for the job I have now. I have no issues with that. The government just likes to be private sometimes, and I understand that.

I'd hate to leave this job, because it looks like the company is very employee friendly. That's not easy to come by, these days. But, this other job would pay quite a bit more money besides the very interesting work.

I know better than to get my hopes up. If it works out, fine. If not, that's fine, too. I'm just amazed at the good luck coming my way, these last few weeks. Trust me...this doesn't happen in my life. Has the earth tilted off it's axis or something?

It's the power of the Lit Mobs ;)

You go DVS! :rose:

Thank you for sharing that marvelous news. :D

Sorry to drag the old thread back up, but I think it's the best way to do things. If you don't already know the situation, just read the thread.

I got a registered letter the other day. I didn't have any idea who it was from or what it was about until I went to the post office and got it. How often do you get registered letters?

It was from my former employer's HR department. They said through a recent audit they found I had been shorted $37.11 at one time or another and so I am to let them know how I want to receive this.

This might not seem like much to some, but it is very telling to me. The hearing for my unemployment benefits from them is this coming Thursday morning. This will decide if they owe me somewhere in the area of $2,400 for back benefits. I'm sure they are looking through their history with me, making sure they haven't done anything that I can bring up in this hearing.

The hearing itself is going to be a phone hearing. I'm disappointed in that, because I wanted to look these people in the eye and see their faces when I asked certain questions. But, all I'm going to be able to do is listen on the phone. I know that saves the state money, but I think it also weakens my side of the battle a bit.

I could probably request another hearing, but it would only delay things another month at the very least, and I need to get on with my life. All I'm looking for is the money and maybe a little bit of "I told you so".

Each hearing has a set of documents each party must have in front of them, and this one has my 5 page initial letter to the unemployment people telling why I thought I was fired, giving day by day and almost hour by hour points of what I thought really happened.

The employer only made a statement over the phone (taken down by an unemployment person) where they said I "was discharged because after an investigation and interviewing many different people we do believe he made offensive gestures and what Americans would call ghetto language to various races. He would say what are you doing bro? and he was doing this to more than just black people."

They also said I "would make racial jokes. All of this is against our company policy and several people found it offensive." They said I've "denied it, but after getting the same response from a half dozen people or more," they concluded I must be doing it.

I heard from the client himself that he only knew of three individuals being involved. Of those three, two of them have now been removed from the post or quit because they were caught by the client doing the things on camera...things I had been "snitching" about for months. The third is now the new Sgt. and so has benefited from my being fired. He got the job, because he was the only one who applied for it. That should tell you something about the atmosphere of that place, now.

I thought it was interesting that my former employer has tamed down what I said that forced them to fire me for cause. The N word wasn't even in their statement. I'd think that would be something they'd want to bring up, but to say I used ghetto language and called people "bro" seem vastly tame to me. Of course I deny even saying those things, but at least my story is still the same.

That job I interviewed for? I don't think they wanted me. I didn't have the experience they preferred. DUH! I thought my application would have told them that. Anyway, it was good that I didn't get my hopes up.

On another topic, the present new job is doing fine. I've signed several confidentiality agreements so I can't say much about what I do except I walk around at night with a gun, and watch that I don't step in the deer and goose poop. Of course there are reasons for everything.

I thought I had passed all of the clearance investigations but I found out that my classified clearance hasn't yet started. So, if I don't pass that for some reason, I might not have this job for long. Not knowing what they actually check on, I'm kind of in the state of limbo. I'll keep you all updated. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

DVS, were they seriously offended by your "alleged" use of the word "bro"?

Almost all of the Kiwis and Aussies I know use that term. (Pronounced more like "brew", though). I've never thought of it as ghetto speak. I mean, maybe it would be too casual for a work situation, but racist?? Really?

People here in Oklahoma, well, guys mainly, use "bro" or even funnier "brosef" (pronounced like the name "Joseph") when referring to their friends, regardless of skin color. That's fucking RETARDED that they're trying to pin YOU with the title of racist because you said 'bro'.

If I was the judge, I'd laugh that case right outta court and tell them to pay you for pain and suffering.
