Do people realize, or care, that this was the most produced military aircraft in history? The II-2 ground attack fighter was amazing and far more effectual than say the British made Hawker Typhoon.

I became especially interested in the plane for it's role in the Lvov-Sandomiere Offensive of 1944.

I'm interested in that because I bought some documents and awards for a member of the 8th Panzer Division. In specific, an Oberfeldwebel Max Ring 9./Pz.Gren.Rgt.8

Trying to figure out when he likely won his Iron Cross First Class and Silver Wound badge. Anyway, the 8th fucked up badly in this Russian offensive and got pounded by the Ilyushin's.

Of course, the date of the award is meaningless to the action in which earned. Near as I can tell, this (Lvov-Sandomiere) was most likely it.
