Illustrators Hangout

Hi guys,,,
Just jumping in to check things out.
Rhino, what kind of pen do you use, Rapidograph or flair? I know I get weird about the ones I use, I used to use a rapidograph, but I have found some of the newer gel pens are quite nice. If I'm using pencil, I have to use the same pencil, it's like bad luck or something if I switch...lol. I'll sharpen it to a stub if I have to !!!

Just curious.

Oh vey, I haven't really done anything since the last ones I've posted, I think a month ago....lol.
When the urge comes back, I'll be sure to post.
Thanks for the info.
Happy sketching to you!

what ho-- back from the wilds

Lovely to see we're still busy...

About the sex drawings... I used to use photos, but I hated the distortion of the camera.

Cameras do not see in true perspective, and everything closer in swells in size. So I went back to roughing the shapes-- ribcage, hip, whatnot-- and then drawing from that.

All imaginary, and very difficult to do the foreshortening sometimes. I like to "fuss" with the pencil, it's the medium I am most at home in. The doodles on the paper placemats in restaurants proceed from the face outward with no unlying sketching, and are frquently done in ballpoint because that's what I have with me. Waitron units, whatever the non-sex-specific phrase is, frequently scarf them up and I never see them again. Sort of a visual tip to go with the pecuniary one.

But anyway, the doodlings are spontaneous and fussy, and the pencils planned and fussy. Posters are often bold and all design elements. I prefer to use cut paper and glue.

We used to draw weirdly distorted figures all the time as a kind of competition, Lloyd and I, and pass them back and forth in class.

i am curious who downloads these images and says nothing....some have been a dozen times...others 40.....I gather that just VIEWING them counts as a "download"......so perhaps people peek and have no interest?

If you are lurking....don't be afraid to make a comment.

I am. I subscribed to the thread. I enjoy the drawings, they're very nicely done. Not much more to add.

hurray! good to have a..........an AV and a name.

I do love your AV what is it's history? Looks like a Bougereau....with a twist.

You MUST have thoughts and opinions.

The only reason to post (illustrations....and stories for that matter) here is for feedback or response (speaking for myself..natch)...otherwise I could just thumb through my drawings by myself.

The AV I had made from a picture someone posted--it reminded me of special weekend with a special friend, one I'd like to re-enact someday.

Of course I do have opinions--as with an asshole, everyone does. But not everyone has a right to express it. I think the drawings are lovely. I like the fluidity and flux.

rhino-currently I cannot think of a couple who would be comfortable enough to pose having sex...or even just laying naked together.
rhino,
if I could get my husband to be comfortable posing for you I would love to do this - but that is not too likely. :(

Still love your drawings...

I especially liked "nappingred" and "legupman", rhino; and the mirror image. So much of the stuff I do is one-use, for a newsletter, for an article, for a poster, and the thing leaves no trace behind it. I found some 'way rough "idea" sketches, but damn few of those.

I envy you, having so many drawings just lying around within reach of a scanner.

black dog

A young guitarist who lived with us while going to x-ray tech school was in a band they called Black Dog. Not very original, and they did a lot of blues and covers, but they had three guitars and sounded okay. I did a t-shirt for them.

The t-shirts did fine, the band fell apart.

Two masters, one blue, one red. The black is the t-shirt material.

This is a scan of a twenty-year old t-shirt, because the masters belong to Brad now.
