In your opinion, is art a learned skill, or a natural talent?


Should the artwork in the Illustrated category be voted for separately to the stories that they are submitted with?

(Sorry, I'm just intrigued by the topic.)

When I was younger I used to draw, sketch and paint all the time. I even took calsses in college in the hope my skill would improve enough to allow me to get a job with a graphic designer my mom knew. Alas, I haven't the skill and likely never will. Especially when it comes to the idea of illustrating my writing.

Muffie, your sketch was very good. I think someone mentioned the nose should be a little pointer, but it is really good. You are a fine writer, I think with some work you could be a fine artist too. I envy you for your talent in both realms.

I think the reason for the lower scores is that illustration is not a very well defined category. So much of what people like in sex stories can offend or totally turn someone else off. There's nothing to warn people that my story contains bdsm etc. or that someone else's is an exhibitionist piece.

There are plenty of people out there that grade on how hot a story makes them.

I like the bit about grades for the artwork.

Sub-categories within the Illustrated stories would be too much work and not worth it, according to me.

When I think about submitting in the illustarted category (I do think about it often), I realise that writing after a picture is drawn and making up a story about it would be much easier than writing and then illustrating the things in the story. Much like ffreak's inspiration.

How about coming up with some nice drawings to pick from rhino?

Edited to add: I can't draw to save my life. Well, maybe I could draw but I can't make it look like what I want it to.

Instead of using different categories, why not a single two letter code at the beginning of each illustrated story to explain what category it fits.


For Chain Stories it would be titled: "CS - Tales of Snippettsville"

For Group Sex it would be titled: "GS - "The Highville Eleven and the Girl Who Hated Cricket."

For Interracial Love it would be titled: "IL - Mohammed El Abdul and Bobbie Sue's Elopement."

For How-To it would be titled: "HT - English Dialogue, How She Am Spoke."

For Non-Erotic it would be titled: "NE - Controlling Robotic Sex Surrogates With a Microsoft O/S."

For Sci-Fi it would be titled: "SF - The Green Man Comes to Our Orgy."


This way, every story in each category would automatically be gathered together, so readers would find them all together, and have some idea about what they were about, beside Illustrated.
