I have created a story. I want to use AI generated illustrations to show my characters. I have some questions. I want to have my AI characters nude. I want to show sex without showing details, maybe just a head in a lap type of thing. And I don't want my story to be pigeon holed into the illustrated catagory. What must I adjust or compromise on?

Don't use AI. If you use AI generated illustrations, people will assume your writing is AI. Plus this platform is VERY anti AI, so I'd be careful even mentioning it.

The site doesn't host graphic nude content. The site doesn't allow AI content.

The site only publishes illustrated content in that category, I suspect for technical reasons.

The AI illustrations - remove them completely. There's not much left, really.

Thanks. That is not the response I was hoping for. I read elsewhere in the forum that softcore AI images were accepted to publish, but apparently not in stories. It would certainly enhance the spanking material. I have yet to generate any images, so it is no time lost and none to remove. I have sent for a specific answer on this from Literotica themself, but after 10 days, they have not responded to my questions.

Correct, not in stories. That would mean hosting AI generated content. If you'd been around when the site established its "No AI" content and read the small print and between the lines, the site seems to have had a concern about the legitimacy of AI content in a copyright sense - given that the AI tools had scraped original content without permission from the original authors and artists. I suspect the site got legal advice saying, don't host any such content, it might create problems later.

The "No nude art" policy was an over-reaction about something else, separate to the AI issue.

AI told me the person who requested the material owned it, but it was not copyrighted because no human created it. It is a gray area I imagine Lit decided not to entertain. AI pictures would greatly enhance the story. I would think nudity would be accepted as long as it was "R". I suspect this is to operate internationally with laws being fluid in nations. For instant in my state I am blocked from certaiin adult sites unless I show proof of age which is hassle I won't entertain. Once they are there, it would be hard to scrub.

What about an AI generated avatar? I see one person using a full nude photo avatar.

Please review the image posting guidelines found here: https://www.literotica.com/faq/forum/forum-thread-picture-rules

I have tried to be as lenient as possible with image threads, especially with remote linking to other sites. However, from this point, I will be following the rules to the letter.

Do not share ANY images in this forum that you do not personally own the rights to post. This is explicitly explained in the rules linked above.

Here are the three ways images can be shared here at Lit (verbatim from the rules):

The three methods of posting an image on the Lit forum are as follows:
    • Attachments. These are user-owned images which are uploaded to our server by users. All attachments must be posted by a legal adult who owns the rights to the image as well as meeting our community guidelines and forum rules or they will be removed if brought to our attention. Accounts will be suspended for repeated violations.
    • Remote linking. These are images which are hosted on your server (or any other third party server which you have permission to use) and displayed in your posts. As with attachments, they must always meet our guidelines and forum rules.
    • Avatars******** Pics. These are your images which you can upload to display on your profile page and next to each forum post or comment you make. As with the others, they are required to follow our guidelines and rules. Member Avatar FAQ
The Literotica Forum Photo Guidelines have been created to conform to United States law in regards to content and copyright laws. If you disagree with the policy, please refrain from posting any images on Literotica.

Further in the rules:
  • You must have a legal right from the copyright owner to post any images - i.e. photographs/drawings that you yourself created and/or have a legal license or other legal permission to post. You retain all legal rights to your images when posting them on Literotica. You are only granting us a non-exclusive license to display them for as long as you leave them up on your account.
With regards to linked images: As with attachments, they must always meet our guidelines and forum rules.

All of the image threads here are filled with links to other sites that do not meet Lit guidelines and forum rules.

We will be enforcing the rules to the letter in this forum. Feel free to make an image threads in the AmPics forum if you are posting images of yourself. Feel free to make threads on the General Board as it is currently unmoderated. This is, however, a moderated discussion forum and is not the place for Tumblr-esque threads that skirt and violate the forum rules.
From the "Member Avatar FAQ":

In addition to a Literotica username, Lit members are recognizable by their Avatar photo/artwork. Avatars are small images that appear next to your username on your profile, in published works, comments, chat, and other places around the Literotica community. Your avatar is part of your personal identity in the Literotica Community.

You can add or change your Literotica avatar image by going to: User Menu > Control Panel > Options > My Profile

Once you are on the My Profile page, you will see your Avatar image near your username. Click on (or touch) the Avatar image to upload a new one. Once you’ve uploaded a new Avatar, it must be reviewed before becoming public. It may take up to 24 hours before other users can see your new Avatar.

Avatar Content Guidelines

To keep the community safe for everyone, we do not publish Avatars (photos or artwork) that include:

  • Nudity (genitals, nipples, or buttocks)
  • Closeups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches (even clothed)
  • Sexual acts or hardcore
  • Violence, gore, or extreme content
  • Illegal activity (bestiality, etc.)
  • Images of any kind to which you do not own the copyright
  • Photos of any recognizable individuals without their explicit consent to use the images
  • Images of any kind depicting individuals or characters that either are or appear to be under the age of 18
  • Your image should meet all of the Literotica site wide publishing guidelines.
  • If your Avatar or Header Image is found to be disruptive by the Lit community for any reason, we reserve the right to remove it even if it does not violate any of the specific rules above.
We also do not allow spam, politics, religion, or any other content prohibited in our Publishing Guidelines to be used in Avatars. Using Avatar images to impersonate or harass another user, or anyone else, is strictly prohibited as well. If you believe another user is violating our avatar policies, please report the user to us (by visiting their Member Profile and using the “Report” feature) so that we can investigate

To be "rude" (blunt):

Just "NO"

You may have seen it, but that don't make it right.
Folk run stop lights too.

Agree. To expand, when users upload content they are confirming that the content meets the rules. Lit can't be expected to examine every item uploaded.

By which I mean if a person ticks the box saying "yes, I own the copyright" and they indeed do NOT own the copyright, then there's every chance that Lit is unable to determine they are lying.

Lit has no facility or resources to ask that artists upload proof of creation. Like, we can't upload a speed-paint for every piece, and there's no time for anyone to watch every speed paint, not to mention that many works don't have speed paints at all. There comes a point where you just have to say "these are the rules, abide by them," and rely on user reports to pick up anything that slips through the cracks caused by a cursory glance.

This is a full frontal nude photo of a woman with her legs spread. She claimed it was her sister in her bio.
Well, you can report that if you like, as it's against the rules.

Remember, nude images used to be allowed. When the rules changed the site had to try and locate and delete everything which was no longer allowed.

I was 8 months into work on an illustrated story when the rules changed, which meant my story in progress that was specifically written/drawn to meet Lit's rules, now broke them. And could never be posted here. The pictures formed part of the narrative in parts, it wasn't a simple "take out the images" solution, it would need a full rewrite.

Many artists had their images stripped from their already published stories, and the entire erotic art category disappeared. I saw stories get low votes and nasty comments from readers just after this happened, as some readers were blaming the authors for what happened.

Yes it sucks that new people can't come here and publish nude art they are yet to make, but consider that many of the people you're talking to had existing work that they created themselves impacted with the change.

Exactly.

I lost my entire visual artist "library"
And my illustrated stories lost their illustrations, so (for the same reasons as Katie's) I had my stories removed.

This "corner" is now quite skeletal.

Who are you talking to?
I am "on ignore"

YOU have never asked me to draw anything.
I don't know who they're asking to work for free either.
Funny that folk want "works" for free.

I know your point here is "free isn't actually free," but I'm going to go off on a tangent here. Content warning for rant of dubious relevance to the current topic in which "you" doesn't refer to you, just some folks in general.

People have always wanted free stuff.

Need an avatar, pick an image off the internet somewhere and use that. I've done it before, I think most people have, at some point. Not everyone of course, but a lot. 25 odd years ago I was on some fandom forums and taking movie stills for avatars or signatures was common. I remember laboriously cutting out (in photoshop by tracing around with my computer mouse) different characters to combine into a single signature banner. We (being me and my friends/online acquaintances) didn't really think about copyright back then.

Now there's AI. Instead of trawling the internet for an image you don't own the copyright to, you can just generate an image you don't own the copyright to.

Of course, there's other ways to get stuff for no $ cost.

You can get images online which are free to use, like free stock images. Stuff made by other people and uploaded for people to use for free- just check the licencing on it. I've made book covers using free stock images before, because I was too lazy to draw something for that story and didn't want to pay for something I was giving away for free.

You can make images yourself, even if you can't draw, most people have access to a camera. grab you phone, take a photo of a flower, the sky, your foot, whatever.

You can get creative people to make stuff for free, but you might have to be nice. I'm making something for a friend just now. She tried to do it herself, I offered to help, she gratefully accepted.

You can offer to trade skills.

But what I don't understand is the current attitude some people have of "if you don't want me to use AI, you're going to have to work for me for free." Not "hey, can someone please make me this, I can't pay sorry but maybe I can help you with editing or something?" not "Hey, does anyone know where I can get free stock images for my book cover."

Was this the case prior to AI? Did people say "If you don't want me stealing a random image, you're going to have to work for me for free?" I don't recall it.

Years ago, I was on a forum where they had inbuilt avatars and you could earn clothing and accessories for them and play dress-ups with your avatar. You could gift items to other users. The crowd was mostly teenage girls. Sometimes, someone would beg for an item. "Pleeeeassssseeeee I neeeed it." The moderators had a saying. "Stop begging. You don't need pixels." If teenage girls could cope with that, surely grown adults can cope with that?

If Lit says they don't want us to use avatars we don't own the copyright to, then we either need to use an appropriate avatar or suck thumb. 'Cos we don't need pixels.

I am sure people who made buggy whips told people not to buy a car.
If you want to use AI, there are plenty of sites that will allow it. Just not this one.

There's a good discussion to be had about what happened to the Illustrated category of this site. There are trade-offs either way and regardless of what the site's policy was I'm sure more and better communication about it would have helped. Conversely, there never was an "AI" section of this site to begin with. Feel free to take it elsewhere.

To continue the "car vs. horse" analogy, there are in fact plenty of places even today where cars are not allowed and horses are. Consider Literotica a wooden barn, old but in frequent use and good repair, opening onto a broad corral, surrounded by rolling hills of grassy pasture as far as the eye can see. Driving a Cadillac there would be bad for both the horses and the Cadillac.

Poor analogy.

Your implication is that hand drawn art is inferior to A.I. or simply archaic.

I reckon your stories (by that measure) are inferior to A.I. stories.
