...put down the damned buffalo wings!

so what's your tolerance for spicy food?

ed

p.s.: as always, my answers later, yadda yadda yadda...

I love spicy food. My tolerance for me isn't based on how much heat I can handle, but how much pain and suffering I want to endure after I eat said spicy food. I'm not a big fan of food that's hot just to be hot, though. For eample I prefer hot wings that have some other flavoring to them, not just straight buffalo hot.

A little heat is good. If it's so hot that all you taste is the hot, no thank you.

Once and for all, what is the most effective way to kill the heat that lingers in your mouth?

I'm the same as you Bobsgirl.

Since I never eat or prepare my food too spicy I never have to resort to 'things' to put the fires out in my mouth. I've heard that tea, beer and milk are good in case you need to be rescued...

bobsgirl: proper first aid for too spicy consists of:

1. consuming any kind of dairy products: milk, cheese, sour cream.
2. not consuming any kind of other liquid, which will merely spread the pain through your mouth.

Thanks, ed :)

I just thought of something else. Too hot makes one's nose run and eyes water. This is not an attractive sight.

i'm a big fan of spicy foods, so when i bite off more than i can chew, it's very important stuff for me to know. :>

still...sometimes, there's no substitute for for that feeling of sweat running from your scalp...

Milk!

The base in the milk reacts to stop the burn.

I'm such a baby that I can hardly wave the tortilla chip over the bowl of salsa. I don't do heat.

To cool your mouth, I've always heard milk is good - although beer tastes better going down.....lol

See now there are differnt kinds of hot. Hot Chinese Mustard for example, makes my eyes water and nose run if I accidently breath out through my nose after eating it. I love hot mustard though, it so different from a pepper hot. Pepper hot stays, mustard hot you can wash away instantly.

well... i'm with BG. i love hot food but i'd like to be able to taste something other than the "hot" when i eat it. it doesn't have to be the food itself, necessarily, but i want to taste SOMETHING.

besides, capzaisin (or however the fuck you spell it... the shit in peppers that makes 'em hot) is good for you anyway.

I can only eat mildly hot foods without crying tears and having mucus dripping down my nose. There was this one time I was eating something very, but also very good, that I cried myself through the meal. My friend was laughing at me when i did that.

I can eat wasabi and chinese mustard no problem. That heat is temporary eat water spice so i can take it.

Milk is the best heatkiller.

I can take more heat at some times than others. Unfortunately I frequently misjudge; so I know about the milk.

I've been fooled a lot too--that's why i asked. ;)

Ouch!

Until recently, I wouldn't even touch anything that might set me on fire. I just don't see the point of eating something that will cause me pain. Having said that, a year or two ago I discovered I really like cajun spices. I tried a cajun rib-eye and it's now one of my favorite dishes.

My Dad amazes me tho. He's been known to grow his own jalapeno peppers and I've seen him eat them until sweat pops out on his forehead. He's always told me to eat ice cream after eating jalapenos, that way when they literally set my ass on fire I can holler "Come on ice cream." Laughing....sorry if that's TMI. :cattail:

i absolutely love all hot food :D
but i'm also one of the lucky ones who doesn't get the sweat, and doesn't get the afterburn!
the hotter the better.
and i eat all types of chilli straight off the bush.

I like spicy but it doesn't like me. I'll eat it every once in awhile but it's really not worth the hurt.

I love spicy............yum
BUT I don't want it so hot that I can't taste what I'm eating.
