If there's really a drought why do keep letting immigrants come?

We are told that there is a terrible drought in California, that we all must sacrifice and stop using water. Its an environmental catastrophe, we are doomed if there isn't massive government orchestrated water use behavior modification.

Ok, if that's really true, why do the same politicians support mass immigration. Why did Governor Moonbeam say that all Mexicans are welcome to come to California, legal or not? Why do we allow millions of newcomers every year and nobody even thinks its an environmental problem? They all shower and use water, don't they?

IDK why do they let rice farmers among others piss most of our water away in the desert?

Maybe if SoCal didn't try to have broad green lawns it might help. Of course the Delta Tunnels will really help the SoCal water shortage, but it will destroy the ecology of the delta, so maybe not!

Maybe if we eliminate the cotton crop and shift to hemp it will help?

Maybe if all the Republicans would move to Texas...

No that wouldn't really help. This is just like money....water is money.

Citrus, rice, cotton, vineyards and nuts are the biggest water hogs in CA by a long shot. We need to yank these mega farms water permits....because farming in the desert is fail, that's all there is to it.

These big ag companies own most of CA's water. They chastize citizens about saving water, fine them for using it, charge them through the fucking nose for what they legally use and are even talking about metering/taxing private wells now.

All of that could be avoided if the DEMOCRATS would stand up for the people for ONCE and tell Monsanto/ConAgra etc. NO for a change and at least reduce their water permits. But instead like elitist scum they squeeze the poor/middle class and let megaCorp flood empty rice fields so they can get a federal subsidy check FOR WASTING WATER!!! LMFAO!!!

Yes...it's that insane and yes the Democrats are rat fucking California that hard.

Not entirely or alone mind you but thinking either party is on the side of the people and not the plutocracy? Is laughable at this point....they will run you out of the state before they cut into MegaCorps profits.

Cheap labor. Cheap cheap cheap The greedy don't want to pay for anything.

Monsanto plants are designed to use less water so siding with them over the smaller farmers is a win from that particular perspective.

But I've got an easier suggestion that works with California mindsets. Tax the big guys to pay for desalinaation plants and research. They either pay and we get more water or they leave and we save more water. Either way we win.

They are still bogartn' and farming tropical products in the desert is still fuckin' retarded.

Wasting water to get your federal aid check is even more sickening.

I'd back that  price you pay for farming the desert.

Fuck you commie!

I hope businesses keep moving out of CA, and you scum lose all your tax revenue... I'm going to watch it all burn!

Oh I'm not arguing that. I think lawns should be illegal in California or at least heavily fined as fuck. Farming a desert is arrogance at it's finest. Agreed that wasting water to get your federal aid check is disgusting but we kinda got ourselves into that mess. Farming is simply "too easy" for a lack of better terms and we had to figure out away for farmers to not go out of business.

But yeah farming here is stupid, plenty of America gets plenty of rain, most not quite as much sunshine as us but we'll figure it out.

Hell just seeing the stats on the difference between pork, chicken and beef minor dietary changes would have huge impacts. But you have to make sure you don't say anything about the environment. Because you know that's libruhl evil.

LOL!!! We seriously need 10 million people to get the fuck out.

Yea, if it doesn't rain enough where you live you don't get one...because dessert n' shit.

It really is, and I like how you phrased that.

It's true...lots of political fuckery surrounding it. But unless we start getting more rain more regularly some hard decisions are gonna have to be made. We will need to start changing some agricultural practices or start cutting neighborhoods off.

Things could get ugly....glad I live up in they rainy part of the state.

Yea....there are a lot of very small changes we could make that would have huge impacts on our water usage, food generation efficiency etc. But they would have economic impacts too and we can't have that!! no no no...big bux doesn't want that. Community gardens? Urban aquaponic farms? No fuckin' way....they literally send cops to come shoot you for that shit, CA's ag laws/industry is insanely corrupt.

That stats I've seen suggest that just eating more poultry and pork and less beef (cus both breed faster, and grow faster and need less space) would be tremendous. And honestly I can agree that Turkey bacon isn't quite as good as the real thing but turkey sausage>pork sausage for anything but McMuffin style stuff.

Diversifying production closer to the consumption will save a lot on fuel costs, let put some pig farms in LA and expand the chicken business in San Diego, it's bit cooler down there. :D

He's talking about the Delta Smelt an endangered (Okay not sure on it's actual conservation status and Endangered does mean something as opposed to Threatened) fish that lives in California. It's a shitty little fish not great for a whole lot of anything except dying easily. It's essentially the canary in the coal mine. When they start going bad problems happen.

We also have a conflict between farmers and fishers. Which all boils down to not enough water because it's a desert.

I'll see if I can dig up precise info on it later.

I flew over Lake Mead not that long ago and it looked like it was down a hundred feet. Once they turn off the sprinklers you can say bye-bye to a lot of places people live.

The amount those fish need is a drop in a rapidly-emptying bucket. Reclaiming it might help two or three farms, tops.

I wasn't agreeing with him. I just know what he's talking about as a local.

The Delta smelt is the basis of the food chain in California Delta region. Smelt to Stripped Bass to Salmon and the various fish and wild life that makes up the Delta and Bay Area. One of the key western canal systems draws water from the Delta and sucks the poor smelt into it's turbines. Minced Smelt comes out but is flushed to LA and the farmers on the west side of the Great Valley.

Gov Moonbeam wants to build a tunnel system to suck up the water from upstream and not grind up as many smelts. So we would lose the water twice, in the Sacramento river and the Delta. Easy water the desert, by sucking the water south.

Fish stocks are already so depleted that it is surprising to catch a fish bigger than five pounds now. The days of 50 lb Salmon and 8 lb Steelhead are long gone. Despite vigorous hatchery programs returning Salmon wane drastically.

California has finally gotten a good snow pack for the first time in four years, It may fill our reservoirs but farms will drain them quickly.

Trump tells dry California ‘there is no drought’ during Fresno speech

“We’re going to solve your water problem," Trump told supporters in Fresno, California, on Friday. "You have a water problem that is so insane. It is so ridiculous where they’re taking the water and shoving it out to sea.”

Trump, who said plainly that "there is no drought," is implying that water that could be going to farmers is instead being used to ensure the survival of a near-extinct fish native to the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. As Trump put it, state officials are diverting precious crop water "to protect a three-inch fish," at the behest of environmentalists.

Trump proves once again he doesn't care to understand the issues, if he can get elected, he'll say anything!

In Egypt's case it was by the regular flooding of the Nile ,which brought nutrients as well as water .This was a natural cycle unlike California .

Cheap labor. Cheap cheap cheap The greedy don't want to pay for anything.

So do some laypeople.
They'd rather have cheap labour to do the jobs that they don't like, as opposed to legal skilled immigrants who would take the better paying jobs.
One greencard for an illegal immigrant equals one less greencard for a legal immigrant.

Not that I blame them tho. I might perhaps think in a similar manner, if I were in their shoes.
