If promisicious women are called 'sluts'

I reject the idea that people get to call me something because of how I choose to live my life. it's none of their goddamn business.

Hey, I have little respect for a woman that doesn't like hot nasty sex and on a regular basis. :)

Wouldn´t we be happier if we simply accepted that everyone wants to get it on with everyone? Why does sex have to be about bragging rights and possession? That stuff just ruins everything.

I'm with 'spellslave' on this one...

Man or woman, doesn't really matter....everyone has a different level of libido that determines how they approach their sex lives.

I'm no more for using the word 'slut' than I am for using the word 'prude'....if you need a lot of sex, then you should be free to pursue a lot of sex. If you don't, then, hey. That's all your prerogative, it's just as good.

"Manwhore" is what dudes call a guy who's promiscuous but has no standards. A guy is only a "stud" or a "player" if he's promiscuous with women his buddies rate as attractive, class appropriate and socially / racially acceptable. (And no, it doesn't imply money changing hands; there's a fuzzy distinction between "whore" and "slut" in this kind of discourse.) "Slut" tends to get applied to promiscuous women more indiscriminately, except inasmuch as it's a class and popularity marker*; among people they know, a popular, fashionable and/or wealthy girl who sleeps around is a lot less likely to be commonly tarred a "slut" than someone who's promiscuous without any of those social advantages**. There's no particular term of praise either for them, of course (although I've heard very occasional and exceptional women referred to as "players" from time to time).

* It's kind of like how affluent drug addicts and alcholics are "party boys / girls" and poor drug addicts are thugs / winos / junkies / crackheads / druggies / scum. Hence the girls victimized by the Rotherham rape ring, being poor, went unnoticed for an appalling span of time because of course, according to the prevailing class designations, they were "just sluts."

** And of course actual promiscuity isn't even necessary. A girl who develops early and doesn't have any social support network, or a girl with an automatic strike against her such as being poor or not being white, can expect to encounter people who just assume she's a slut or a whore no matter what her actual circumstances. For instance in my hometown growing up it was, and probably still is, a normal thing for dudes to roll up and proposition a black girl on the street -- regardless of her attire or deportment -- because in their minds black girl = whore.

No one's mentioned 'womanizer' - it carries a suitably negative connotation?

Kinda-sorta. My old man once told me he used to be a "womanizer" and it seemed to be a point of pride, so that might be generational.

Hey Sho'nuff! Haha. My father says the same thing and acts the same way!

I just say us boys are sluts too. I've been through that phase.

Boys worry about their willy: is it big enough? will it work? will she like it? So the bragging is all about glossing over those fears.

My gran used the womanizer word is a very critical way, but I can see that men would grab the title and be proud of it.
