Thanks for replying cyan...
I have been offered the chance to write for another site in return for them hosting my dotcom website...they have said I can either let them build my site ...or do it myself...
I just wanted to know what was involved if I went down the do DIY road..I have a ftp program...but not sure where I would upload it to if I didnt take up their offer. What sort of money am I looking at to have another host. Sorry it sounds a bit naive...but I am fairly new to the web building and sponsors/hosting etc..Any help welcome..

Are you using your home internet connection? If so your provider should have an offer.. For example I spent about 60 bucks a month (Canadian) on my busness account which olds my domain name and internet connection(T3).

With the FTP program.. you would need a place to put your files(server) And then that server would need to make a viritaul directory for them. Also if you want to have your own domain name you can go to many different roots to get one... try http://www.networksolutions.com or your internet provider.

As with everything, hosting fees range in price. I have a friend who may be able to give you some good prices. I will get in contact with him and let you know.

But a good start to price ranges is about, 25cdn to 1000cdn

Got some more questions just ask, and I will get back to you on some better prices and who is out there...

Or do a search for hosting companies on a search engine, that works just as well.

Thanks Cyan

Thanks for your info mate...
Sorry about the delay in replying ...but I have been debating what steps to take next with my site..There are a few alternatives and just putting out feelers for the various options....
My preference...but the biggest risk is to buy a dotcom site and pay to host it and hope to cover my costs with sponsorship...I have had a few offers to sponsor me...but not sure what to charge..
Because of my long term illness I am limited in the risks I can take and the possible work load I could cope with.
I have had a terrific idea for the theme of my new site but just need the courage and backing to go to the next step..
I know that nothing ventured ..nothing gained...but obviously the competition out their is immense and you always doubt your own abilities..
As usual I`m woffling on..
I appreciate any help I can get..
Cheers Angus

Well, if you buy a dot com that is already up and running. You may find that you have traffic from the orginal owners but, with sponsorship. Thats a hard one, for myself I am in the business of Web Design and Development but I have sponsored a few people to make a site. And develope on it with the agreement that I would make a % of the returns. Kind of like buying shares into the company. That is one way to do it, hosting is the biggest problem ever. Do to the fact that you either need your own server or someone else to do it. If you have the money I would suggest getting your own server.

In the long run it would be better, for then you can work off of more ideas, like hosting sites yourself. But that in self can be painful. But don't think just because your sick you should not do it. The work load can be big but it can be mostly from your computer at home... so there are benifits to it. If you would like you can send me an e-mail with what information you would like to know about and I can try and give you a hand.

Just send the e-mail to information@msmarketing.org (a dot com site I bought) The web site is not up yet I have been to busy with contracts but I will responde to e-mails in 24hrs. So I leave it in your hands now...
