Then why do they appoint Republicans as Secretaries of Defense? Well, because Democrats are not strong on defense. Is that not obvious?

They appoint weak liberal Republicans who will carry out the leftist agenda and make it easy for Democrats to point and say, "see, a Republican did it."

Senate voting record
According to David Boaz, during the Bush administration, Hagel maintained a "traditionally Republican" voting record, receiving "a lifetime rating of 84 percent from the American Conservative Union and consistent A and B grades from the National Taxpayers Union."
On the Issues describes Hagel as a "libertarian-leaning conservative."[32] According to Boaz, among his most notable votes, Hagel:
Voted for the Patriot Act;[33]
Voted for the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts;[34][35]
Voted against No Child Left Behind;[36]
Voted against Bush’s Medicare prescription drug bill;[37]
Voted against McCain-Feingold.[38]
Here are some other weak liberal Republicans that have a lifetime rating over 80% from the ACU:
Graham
Hatch
McCain

What about my answer was confusing to you?
How would I know? I'm not them.Nothing. It was a non-response. You stated "having bipartisan national security leadership is worth something."
Worth what?
There has to be a real reason why Democrats select a Republican to be SoD, yet Republicans do not select Democrats.
Anyone know?

Duh. It's because Democrats are more bipartisan than Republicans.

It isn't a leftist agenda when a majority supports it. Just pointing out the obvious to those less capable of understanding it.
