If Bush is REALLY serious about the sanctity of marriage ...

Marriage, as the Bible Says

The Presidential Prayer Team is currently urging us to; "Pray for the President as he seeks wisdom on how to legally codify the definition of marriage. Pray that it will be according to Biblical principles. With many forces insisting on variant definitions of marriage, pray that God's Word and His standards will be honored by our government."

Any good religious person believes prayer should be balanced by action. So here, in support of the Prayer Team's admirable goals, is a proposed Constitutional Amendment codifying marriage entirely on biblical principles:

A. Marriage in the United States shall consist of a union between one man and one, or more, women
(Genesis 29:17-28 / II Samuel 3:2-5).

B. There are some women who you are not allowed to marry.
The following shall be forbidden to you.
1. Two wives may not be sisters of each other.
(Leviticus 18:18 )
2. Two wives may not be a mother and her daughter or her granddaughter.
(Leviticus 18:17)

C. Adultery is forbidden in all cases. If a man commits adultery with another mans wife. Both adulterers shall be put to death.
(Exodus 20:14 / (Leviticus 20:10 )

D. Marriage shall not impede a man's right to take concubines in addition to his wife or wives.
(II Samuel 5:13 / I Kings 11:3 / II Chronicles 11:18-21).

E. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed. The men of the city shall stone her to death.
(Deuteronomy 22:13-21).

F. Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden.
(Genesis 24:3-4 / Numbers 25:1-9 / Ezra 9:11-12 /
Nehemiah 10:30).

G. Since marriage is for life, neither this Constitution nor the constitution of any State, nor any state or federal law, shall be construed to permit divorce.
(Deuteronomy 22:19 / Mark 10:9 -12).

H. If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry the widow. If he refuses to marry his brother's widow or deliberately does not give her children, he shall pay a fine of one shoe and be otherwise punished in a manner to be determined by applicable law, which may include death.
(Genesis 38:6-10 / Deuteronomy 25:5-10).

I. Regardless of the number of wives and the order of marriages to the wives, the first-born son shall receive a double portion for his inheritance, as is his birthright.
(Deuteronomy 21:16-17)

J. A menstruating wife, and any other woman, is unclean and must not be touched during her period and for seven days thereafter. If a man and a woman have sexual relations during her menstrual period they both shall be excommunicated.
(Leviticus 15:19 / Leviticus 20:17-18)

great post

lol. I've never heard of the Presidential Prayer Team.

The only thing I pray for is for laws to not be based on religious documents.

Dont you know that the church controls the laws?

Maybe not directly but you know whoever is President listens tot he church and is afraid to say anything against them.

all the more reason to keep praying.

I think the church's grip is loosening.

dont get me wrong, i am not against any sort of religion. i think everyone should have a religion.

the thing that i hate is when i hear religious groups (any kind) telling the politicians what has to be done.

ex. gay marriages will never be legalized in all 50 states because the bible is against gays.

my 2 cents

Hmm, a bit strict, but sounds reasonable to me! :D

But seriously, this one actually makes sense to me, at least this part of it:

Many American Aboriginal nations had this rule, although I don't recall any punishment against the late husband's brother for noncompliance. It was generally regarded the brother's duty to marry and support the widow, even if she did have children. Any reluctance or refusal to take on this duty was considered dishonorable conduct and was frowned upon I'm sure, but considering the importance of honor in many Aboriginal cultures, I would think there was usually no need for punitive action.

So what would happen if there were no brothers?

The widow's late husband's father would do it. If he's dead, then it's open to volunteers, one of which would be chosen by the tribal elders. That's how the Sioux did it anyway.

lol was being a smart arse .. The sister idea would be a grand thing though eh? That is if you got along w/ her .. I'd rather throw my SIL into a ditch before I married her lol And seriously now, that is similar to how the papago tribe did it ~ from what I can remember .. I was raised w/ them for a short while when living w/ my grandfather.

Not something I'd like though ~ just leave me be I say :)
