I work full time. My job doesn't pay well. I would like to earn about $12000 extra in a year to get out of debt. The field my degree is in doesn't pay well and jobs are scarce. Jobs in general are scarce where I live. Any ideas on online jobs I can work flexible hours and make that kind of money or jobsite suggestions? I work about 45 hours a week right now. I can do about 10 to 15 hours more in addition to that. Any ideas?

I don't know if there's demand for it in your field, but I do freelance tech editing for a publishing company. They courier me the proofs for an upcoming book, I go through it and email back a list of corrections. It pays $5 a page, although I assume that would vary from publisher to publisher and maybe depending on the field. It eats up a lot of my free time (which doesn't help my Lit posting schedule) but it helps pay the bills.

blog about something that interests you...garner a following, sell ads. $1000 a month is an achievable goal, would take daily diligence, probably about a year to start seeing results like that.... less if you were a hot chick posting nekkid pics.

I agree with Query, and even if I didn't I'd say I did because his AV intimidates me.

you think that's impressive, wait till you get an eye-full of the size of my....

I think your expectations may be a little high about the kind of income an extra job may bring. You said you want to make an extra $1000 a month and you have 10-15 hours extra a week to work. Let's split the difference and say you work 12.5. In a month, that's 50 hours. To make an extra $1,000 a month you would need to make $20/hour doing that. That's a decent wage and I doubt you'll find much side work paying that kind of money, unless your degree is of a more technical nature and you could do some consulting here and there.

I think all department stores allow for part time work and, depending on the department, you could make some decent money. When I was in college I sold shoes and I never made less than $10/hr. It was usually around the $15/hr mark and was as much as $25/hr during holidays. But we were commissioned and not every department was. And these numbers are from ten years ago too.

I'm curious as to what your plan is for getting out of debt. It's good to see you trying to fix the income portion of it. Good on you for that. But equally as important is the ability to attack the outgo portion. I've taught classes on debt reduction and wealth management before and I'd be glad to offer assistance, here or through PM. I've seen a lot of common mistakes people make, so I'd be glad to help point you in the right direction, if you need help.

Best of luck with your debt reduction. Living without bills is a nice feeling.
