Hi! I submitted a story to literotica close to a week ago and it hasn't been approved yet so before I post another one I want to make sure it's good. So I have this little story about a bbw wife, nothing too outlandish. Just the sex, ma'am. And I'd love to have someone read it over for me and give me some feedback. Thanks so much!

Hi Max, thank you for your reply. I'll definitely look into the editor's section. My story is a .doc file of course, I prefer word to any other program.

Not On The List

But I'm an experienced editor, if you still need one. PM me if interested. .doc works just fine with me as well.

Just no magnum opus, okay? (or is that ok? Or maybe even OK?)

A Problem Has Arisen

Hi. My name is BrettJ and I am a longtime LIT author, with many stories to my credit. I have rarely used editors, but seem to be encountering problems with my latest submissions. To be honest, I have just about HAD it with LIT.

A story of mine, "Sins of The Sisters" - which WAS approved - had a glitch in it, which I caught, corrected and re-submitted it, glitch FIXED.

They REJECTED the corrected version - dickwads - and now the story isn't available at all, as they've wiped out the ORIGINAL version as well. Dickwads redux.

AND - my newest submission has a SIMILAR error to the first one, the markings for UNDERLINES have remained in, instead of the underlines being there, yet the markings for Bold & Italics went through.

What the FUCK are they doing?

I don't want to submit stories if they are going to, willy-nilly, arbitrarily change the rules.

Here's what they are saying ...

Microsoft Word counts 62 tags but only 61 tags in both the original and edited submissions. Somewhere there is an unclosed tag. Also, you are using VBulletin code () instead of HTML code (<i>). If you want the bolds and italics to show up in your submission, you must either 1) upload the story as a .doc or .rtf using the UPLOAD button beneath the text field, or 2) manually add the HTML code (see this site for HTML tutorials: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/). For more information on this, please see: http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=45432

The ORIGINAL submission of "Sisters" had the wrong amount of closed tags, that's the error I caught, but I corrected it. And WTF is all this gibberish about HTML code and such? I have submitted over 130 stories and ALWAYS in the format I used.

If any LIT editors who also write can be of assistance, I'd appreciate it. I checked out the Editor's List a few times, got one response [ the person was much younger than I and couldn't see the problem ] and in another, got no response.

If I am going to use an editor, I'd like it to be a good working relationship, someone I can trust. If I can't do this, I may just be taking a break from LIT writing.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

For all of the tags you're using, all you need to do is replace [] with <> and the conversion from bbcode to html is complete.

<b> is bold, <i> is italic, <u> is underline... although I'm not sure that one is allowed, as I've never tried that tag yet.

If you switch over from bbcode to html tags, the actual formatting will appear in the preview of the story instead of just the tags. In most cases, any closing tags that are missing will be obvious in the preview, because bold or italic will stay in effect for long after it is supposed to.

Making that switch should make things far easier for you and the Lit powers that be. As to whether underline is allowed, hopefully someone will chime in on that.

Still ....

Okay, I don't know what the heck is going on.

I don't have know what bbcode and html tags are, but I don't get why it matters. I have used the same format in ALL my recent submissions and it's only recently they've started saying "no". Very recently as "Sins of the Sisters" and "Finding Cassandra" went through. I found a glitch in "Sins ..." fixed it, they REJECTED that and erased the original.

I thank you for your help, but not being 100% computer literate, not sure what to do.

I just find some of their rules frustrating ... they tend to come and go.

I want it CLEAR where italics begin and end.

So maybe I need an editor, because quite frankly, I don't have the patience for this garbage.

Oh, they DO allow underlines in stories - or at least, they used to.

PS - Okay, I double-checked - "Cassandra" has all the appropriate italics. So what changed between then and now? I always used the square bracket formaula, like out here, but now they want < >? This is just a confusing mish-mash to me and it SHOULDN'T be.

They've probably converted all the square brackets in your previous submissions by hand with a find/replace operation. The general thought is that a team of editors approves the submissions, and you don't always get the same one. The most likely answer is that you ran across one with the rejected submission who made a decision not to convert the square brackets this time.

For anything you're working on now that already has square brackets:

In your word processor, usually under the edit menu ( even notepad has this option, so it should be pretty standard for any program ) you should see an option for "Replace".

Select that, and you should see two boxes. One will have a label of "find" and the other will have a label of "replace". In the first box, put the [ character. In the second, put the < character. Then just hit the "Replace All" button. Then return to the top of the document and repeat the process, but use the right versions of both brackets ] and >

This should change all of your tags to the ones that display properly on Lit. When you paste the story into the submission box and preview it, you should see the actual bold/italics/underlines exactly as they will appear when posted on Lit. If there are any mistakes, you should be able to see them and correct them by selecting "Make Changes"

For new work, just use <> instead of []. You'll be able to see all your formatting when you preview, and the Lit editors won't have to change all the tags. Your stories will probably post faster, and it will be easier for everyone all the way around.

If all else fails, I could make those changes for you. I don't have a lot of time, but I can certainly squeeze in a quick find/replace for you.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I am using Windows XP to do all of my writing. Will see what happens.

Still, wish LIT would find one system and stick with it. If they have a series of editors, give them a rulebook and stick with it. Had they rejected my original stories this way, I would've gone back and corrected them all by now.

Will let you know what happens - appreciate it.

BrettJ

Okay - it did indeed work, thanks for the advice. I found the second glitch, one of the brackets accidentally got changed, so it looks a-okay. Mil Gracias!

Lit has a rule book and they do stick to it (within the limits of human interpretation). However, none of us are Lit Editors*; we are Volunteer Editors (see http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=493732), and have no status whatever within Lit. Nor do we have any more access to the "Rules" than you do.

* or at least nobody admits to it.

Editors

I am well aware that there's a difference between LIT editors and volunteer editors. I've done some volunteer editing myself.

HOWEVER, as I was trying to say, it seems to be too broad of a spectrum for what's acceptable out here. I used to get stories rejected for using Canadian [ or British ] spellings and punctuation they deemed "unnecessary" [ although actually correct ]

I've seen things out here so badly written with multiple spelling errors, characters names changing [ that happened to me - twice - but it was only a minor glitch, this was throughout the entire story ] and changing from present to past tense and back again.

Anyway, it's all worked out, so it seems - and I got a couple of other pointers that will give me help with the writing. So I still have few regrets about posting the original letter.

I just copied and pasted my submissions...they didn't give me any issues like the ones you describe..

And thank you Asylum for the edit. :)

Quick Post

I'd never had issues - cutting / pasting my submissions as well - until the LAST 3. Other folks have mentioned they're having the same problem lately, but I have hopefully straightened it out.
