This idea comes from the paramedics and Firefighters in Copenhagen Denmark.

If you have a cell phone, they suggest that you put ICE (short for In Case of Emergency) in front of the name of your next of kin, thus making it easier to get in touch with them, if an accident should happen. If you have more than one person you want contacted, then they suggest you use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 and so on.

The best thing about it, is that it's free, easy to do, and can make a difference if ever needed.

Please spread the word to friends, family, other forums and your blog if you have one.

Yeah good plan.

I actually just cheat and have "Next of Kin" on my phone replicating my girl's number, but ICE is decent.

I collapsed a few months back (recurring head injury that I was having problems with) in the middle of a pavement. A firetruck came up and found me apparently (I have no memory of this) and I had to be intubated. I had nothing on me at all except my phone and some cash so they had no idea who i was, or what the problem was, due to lack of medical history.

They were able to call my next of kin (my mother in that case) and she was able to give them vital information about the head injuries I'd previously sustained which led them to give me the right medication. Had she not done that they might well have not treated me correctly and if it had been left too long I could easily have died.

This can do some serious good so listen to the man and do it folks!

I've recently heard of this method a few months ago. I guess I should be doing it.
