IBM Thinkpad HDD Password? Help!!!

Help.

Husband's laptop has issues.

He managed to fix those issues but once he re-assembled the unit it is now requiring a password. What the--?

We looked it up, checked it out - some sites suggest the hard drive must be replaced because IBM has set up the Thinkpad in this manner.

We don't know the password - it's an assembled unit from parts - we're sunk.

Options? Anyone know?

Try this link

It may be a Supervisor or HDD password that is required - see half way down the page, good luck.

Thank you for the link, neon.

We're hoping it's just the hard drive password and not the supervisor.

AND we'd love to be able to NOT have to pay $100 to fix the thing.

I did find some information on switching jumpers on the motherboard - move them from 2-3 to 1-2. It's a thought - but I can't find a decent internal diagram of our thinkpad (and I'm tired of searching - grrrrr.)

I think I want my hour back.

*sigh*

Sarahh,

PM me with what kind of think pad you have and when you get the part that needs the password. I ahve 20 Thinkpads here we work on regularly and may have the answer for you.

Oh! Thank you!

I'll PM now and I'll be on and off this evening.

Bless your sweet and kinky thumb.
