wanderlust has taken hold. i know i'll be traveling again this summer, and i want to explore new places on road trips. the appeal of moving rural on land has a huge appeal. as long as it's within an hour of a decent market. i think i could take desert heat. it's the humidity and heat i hate. that is why as much as i love houston, i will never live there again. that and it's gotten so expensive inside the loop, it is comical. there is no plan, other than to stay put in status quo. i need the dream of rivers and mountains. oceans and seas. one day there may be a leap, but that will happen sudden. quickly. properly planned.

I'm in a similar situation, embarking on a grand adventure. I received my rental agreement forms for a nice two bedroom apartment only 20 minutes from work and right across the street from a great fishing river. I'm pretty excited, I could be in there as soon as the 5th.

I hope you find your wanderlust sated. It's good that you're not just going to pick up and jump to give into that need willy nilly. Perhaps the summers travels will assist you in finding exactly where you want to be. :rose:

Will you become a migrant fruit picker?

They have a wanderin' jones.

that sounds fabulous. i would love to live on a river. a nice river. i don't think i'd want to live along the mississippi. my roots are growing deep here, and part of me just wants to pull up and move. i could easily be in this house another 15 years.

my goal is to have the fruit trees where i live. i have them here, and i'd plant where ever i went.

Look into Homer, Alaska. It's a delightful place.

I'm moving, selling my house and getting out of town. There may be an even bigger move down the road, I'm still thinking about it, a cross country move. We'll see.

It has gotten a bit pricey, but the oil bust has tempered prices here somewhat.

We'll be back on the road soon. We've been telling ourselves that for a few months but bookoo problems with the new little housecar have kept us immobile. Finally, one year after taking delivery, we'll be off on a multi-month tour around CONUS. Traveling tricks:

* A senior pass gives free entry and cheap camping in national forests, parks, etc.
* We joined the fucking Elks Club; they have cheap RV facilities in many many places.
* There's usually free (dry) RV overnighting at Native American casinos and WalMarts.
* When we start to outrun our budget, we stop and wait for the finances to catch up.

This is fairly fancy for us now but we're getting too old to sleep on the ground. We've don'e month-long tenting trips before; it's possible to live low, slow, and cheap, and see and do bookoo stuff. Beats the shit out of vicarious experiences.

any ideas of where you would want to live, if you could just pick a place and move?

Thats sorta my vote...next move will be really far north, but still in Canada

cold. cold. cold. i need some warmth. sunny days.

it's a boom/bust town, but pricey is an understatement. it amazes me what people pay to live in the loop right now.

Come live out in Cali near me. We will have grand adventures and lots of fun ;)

I have the wanderlust too, neci my darling. I want to wait for another couple of years for my oldest to be done with school but life works in weird ways.

For now I'm planning a trip to a tropical locale and we will see what happens with the job.

I have seen much of the good ol' USA and I would pick North Carolina, Outer Banks.

i don't know how east coast i am. i can see the appeal though. it would make for a fun road trip at the least.

oooohhh... how tropical? mine are still in school and love it here, so who knows. there's also business to think about. practical reasoning says stay. the more it says that, the more i feel the need to move.
