This is an interesting article, if you have 15 or 20 minutes to read it. It brings to the front, numerous different topics for discussion and they all relate, in one form or another, to dominance and submission.

What I took from this article is that the author believes that humans have evolved past the alpha male dominace seen in the lesser animal kingdom. And now gain dominance through more socially exceptable means... or someone else might say through manipulation of other humans. It depends, I suppose on your perspective of dominance and submission.

Well, enjoy it if you have time to read it. And if you do have comments it would be nice to read them, too.

uh... i am going to bookmark this so i can read it later... looks like a good read

Interesting article.... it puts to words the way that I had figured stuff out as well. Since I read it, i've noticed people adjusting their "hum" to match mine... go figure ;)

I read this article this morning so I have had most of the day to ponder some of the finer points... but I keep thinking about how women are together...

Put a group of women together and their periods all equilize and happen about the same time... Oh I remember now...."The Rent Tent"... a wonderful book if you are interested...

Also, obviously this person never read Stone's book called "When God was a Woman". I don't think evidences of marticarchy would fit into his scheme of things....

It does make one ponder though...

yeah, but if you read any of the interesting recent texts about how adloescent GIRLS are together, it's like watching hyenas gone cannibalistc....

equalize as the periods may, there's a definite pecking order and it's brutally enforced. Brutally. Certainly makes me recall my 12-16 fondly. Not.

Much as I *like* wolves and bonobos and all the things we are always anthropomorphizing in a quest for understanding ourselves yet more, I like the fact that the article acknowledges the subtle *layered* nature of human interaction.

IMO, it's not tools that set us apart, nor "having a soul" it's the ability to read between the lines. Monkeys probably dont have metaphors, I may never be sure, but I don't see compelling evidence that they do.

A friend of mine paraphrases this article beautifully.

"I love to win. I want to swim with the sharks, but you know....everybody likes dolphins."
