The guy from Ben and Jerry's ice cream (Ben) is privately funding this organization, True Majority. What they do is they email you and tell you that there's something that they're opposed to (Environmental issues, equal rights, etc.)

If you agree with what they say in the email you click a link and fax your Senators and Representatives. (For you Cynics, they really do, I've gotten form letters back from the ones I've faxed).

Anyways, it's something. If you don't like what your congressmen are doing use up their ink and paper!

Sounds cool. Although frustrating. For six years now, I've been writing my representatives (House and Senate) telling them not to do the things they're going to do, and I get these letters in reply saying "thank you for your interest, but fuck off." I tell ya, I'm becoming disenchanted...

Any communication with a government employee is going to cost money, be it in office supplies or hourly wages.

1. Attack poverty and world hunger as if our life depends on it. It does.
Not the job of the government.

2. Champion the rights of every child, woman & man.
That depends on how they define "rights"; somehow I don't think their definition matches mine.

3. End our obstructionism to the world's treaties.
? Any and all treaties?

4. Reduce our dependence on oil and lead the world to an age of renewable energy.
Sounds good - I think many people can support the ideal, but the devil is in the details.

5. Close the book on the Cold War and ease the nuclear nightmare.
You mean like Reagan did? :D

6. Renounce Star Wars and the militarization of space.
Renounce the dark side!

7. Make globalization work for, not against, working people.
Um, define "working people", and define "globalization".

8. Ensure equal treatment under law for all.
That means we all pay a flat tax?

Sounds good to me - but somehow I don't think that is what they mean by "equal treatment". What is the old socialist saying? Some of us are more equal than others?

9. Get money out of politics.
Yeah right. Now I know they are dreaming.

10. Close the gap between rich and poor kids at home.
Equal misery for all - the mantra of socialists.

Sorry, I don't join any kind of "majority"; I am a heretic and thereby by definition the member of a minority. :D

Right, and they give you the option to fax about the issues you want to.

Hey Spin, since you're a member and all, do you think you can get me the number for their fax machine. I think I might just fund an effort to send so many faxes to their machines that they're so busy answering, they don't have time to send anything.

So who's job is it? Secret societies' (like churches)? Or maybe yours and mine. We, the people (oops, that's the government again!)

Yes, let's not forget the rights of corporations.

Isolationism is so 1930s, dude.

Yeah, walk to work. What a concept.

Ron Ray-Gun? The "Star Wars" guy?

6. Renounce Star Wars and the militarization of space.
Renounce the dark side!
See above.

7. Make globalization work for, not against, working people.
Um, define "working people", and define "globalization".
If you need a definition of "working people," you're probably not one of them. Globalization? Think "The Internationale."

8. Ensure equal treatment under law for all.
That means we all pay a flat tax?

You're right. They weren't talking about paying your fair share; they were talking about buying influence.

9. Get money out of politics.
Yeah right. Now I know they are dreaming.
That's an easy way of avoiding the question.

10. Close the gap between rich and poor kids at home.
Equal misery for all - the mantra of socialists.
Is this some left-handed way of admitting the poor are miserable?

There's a cabin in Montana that's vacant now.
