Back in the 50's there was a series of children's books. The Jack and Jill stories. All boys were Jack and all girls were Jill. It's a take on those. Hence my little nursery rhyme.

That or because the denotation for boys and girls rooms use to be Jack and Jill. Which mostly came from the a fore mentioned books.
