the mourning to cease.

As the world has seen one of the greatest atrocities in peace time against a forign power and we all have now mourned the dead and sympathised with the familes of those missing and deceased. I think it is now time for those families to be left alone, out of the spotlight of global mourning, and be allowed to cry in private.

:(

I don't think those families give a crap about your personal timeframe for their mourning.

The funerals have just started, with many more to come. Did you ever think that some of those families maybe don't WANT to cry in private? Funerals are really for the living, not the dead. If the living want the support of the community (be that local, national or global) it should be up to them.

Ahhh... but it isn't. They're 'public figures' now and have very little say in what the media does and does not cover in regards to them. Even if the WANT to cry in private, many of them can't leave their homes without facing cameras... did it occur to you that the post was intended to say HEY, LEAVE THESE PEOPLE ALONE NOW (not to put words in anyone's mouth, but i thought that was the intent of it anyway).

If we're going to get through this, we need to get on with the business of living our average, boring, day to day lives. and the families need to be allowed to do the same.

That was the poster's point!! He was saying that if people want to be left alone to grieve, leave them alone - if someone WANTS a wanker from the media with a camera to follow them about, then that's up to them, too.

That may be what he meant, but what he declared was that it "is time for the mourning to cease." That isn't his decision to make.

It is similar to the threads started on the bb soon after Sept 11 that said, essentially, "Okay gang, I'm bored. The grieving period is over, let's get back to having fun." Each time I saw one of those threads, my post was that people should let those of us who want to continue grieving be. Those who wanted to move on, could. It is fairly easy to see from thread titles which are "fun" threads and which aren't. There is a place for both here.

There is no correct "should" that can be dictated.

Perhaps, for those who have been exposed to terrorism on a regular basis, the media attention and the public grieving of the Americans appears to be excessive.

I do agree that everyone should be allowed to grieve as they wish.

However, our innocence as a nation has been shattered with the onset of terrorism to this degree. Therefore, our grief, our anger, our shock grabs public attention.

I do wish CNN would talke a little break though.

Phew! I just woke up from a nap which might explain these random thoughts! :D

I'm over it

but I am still waiting for the markets to bottom so I can begin to buy.

Whatta country!

Yes. My apologies.

It was a badly written post. My intention was just to mention that nations can grieve just as deeply as relatives or close friends of the victims. But nations cannot grieve as long.

I think it is now time for America to say it's final farewells and then let those closest to the victims to continue, if they wish, in private.

BADLY WRITTEN POST!

You are fired!

Fired! Fired I tell you!

I am shocked to find you are not perfect!

America has retreated from being PC and the Neville C. attitude and gone into John Wayne mode.

Don't apologize, just issue a standard right cross across the jaw!

Marquies of Queensbury (sp?) I presume...

It's 04.23am Mon 24th September

My weekend guest has just left and I'm too tired to do anything more than flick a feeble finger against somebody else's chin.

But tomorrow...ah! tomorrow.....

G'night...zzzzzzzz

:)

I await a proper response...

Since you chose to repose.

I dare you to dispose

of the cares that you ...

That's what I thought you said the first time. I understood you fine. I still disagree with you. Stop trying to tell ANYONE how long they can grieve or when to say final farewells!

gee p_man... could it be that you agree with everyone's latest hero GW? He did afterall declare yesterday our final day of national mourning and all flags are back to flying high.

And to whoever posted about therapists... they HAVE, in fact, been known to tell people... "it's time to acknowledge the grief, let it go, and move on" IMO, we can't let the grief rule us. That's an awful lot like letting the bad guys win.

I've just heard on the radio that the official period of mourning is now over.

So my post is wrong on two counts:

1) It's badly written

2) And written in ignorance. I didn't even know the States had an official period of mourning. It just seemed to me to be an ongoing, open ended thing.

So, as much as it hurts my pride pagancowgirl I have to say on this one occassion I do agree with Bush.

Oooh...aghhh....ohmigosh...that hurt...

:)

Oscar Wilde...

...once declared that the US and England were two nations separated by a common language.

The press in the UK is universally reporting that the "period of mourning" is over in the US as a nation, but not suggesting that it is over for the thousands who will suffer for long to come. They are doing their best to understand a horrific event that has unfolded on a close friend and ally.

I think ppman deserves a bit of leeway for the semantics. Oscar Wilde had this one pretty much spot on.

I think old Oscar was right on this one. The Brits are more reserved when expressing their emotions at least the ones from pp man's generation ( no offense intended).I would not personally want a bunch of cameras stuck in my face when I walked out the door.

It is important for people to resume their daily routines. It helps you grieve more fully as you face your life and the reality of that loved one not being there with you. It spotlights the changes and takes you completely into the hell of gut level grief. The cameras and media may be delaying this at the expense of the mourners. I believe a more helpful stance would be to take each victim and give them a cameo. It would give us all a chance to know that person and the families an individual voice. The common denominator is loss. It never makes sense. It just is and it sucks.
