I don't know exactly what they're called. Pounding on something everynight would be good for me, and everyone else. Do you wear gloves?

It's called a heavy bag. Good exercise. It's surprising how fast you build up a sweat using one.
And nobody calls Johnny Law when you punch it like certain spouses of the male persuasion.

There must be more to it than standing there hitting it. I seriously need to hit something often.

i have one hanging on the corner of my four-poster bed.
i suggest you wear gloves. you can bruise your hands.

I prefer to practice on smaller and weaker people. The sandbag might be too much.

If you find a workout routine based around punching a heavy bag it can be very beneficial as well. I used to warm up with a punching bag before I even did any cardiovascular activities or lifting. It's a great way to relieve stress, get your heart rate up and potentially get a good workout.

There are way too many sweaty people in a gym for me.

If you want fists and arms like Popeye buy a set of sheet metal snips, then get busy cutting up a sheet of 22 gauge steel. But you also need a strong back, biceps, and shoulders...so buy a 10 foot sheet metal brake and lift the bending blade a few 1000 times.
