I Saw The Bike Just Before It Happened.

Jeeze, he must've been moving to flip a Suburban, those things are massive.

I'm amazed the motorcycle driver wasn't killed on impact.

He was hauling ass, weaving in and out of traffic. I thought he might collide with a construction vehicle as much of the road is under construction. The collision created a massive back-up, and traffic was re-routed by the police.

JOMAR

I saw a motorcycle-car collision last May. A kid hit a car, and flew almost straight up in the air, about 25 feet, before landing on his head. His head hit the curb and shattered his helmet.

Two years ago I was the first peerson on the scene of an accident. I saw the bike rip past me like I was sitting still. (I was doing 70MPH at the time. Allowed on that stretch of road.)

A couple of miles later I came upon the accident. The bike, a crotch rocket had T-Boned a car in an intersection. (One that had a camera from the local news station pointed at it.)

The bike was buried inside the car, in fact it had nearly cut the car in half. The driver of the car was dead, she had died on impact. (The bike had hit on the drivers side door.) The rider was found over 100 feet down the road.

I saw the video of the accident after it was released by the police. The car had entered the intersection with a green light. The bike ran through the red light and struck the car. The accident was caused by the rider and the rider only.

I have seen the results of several such accidents and while some in the riding community are very quick to lay the blame for all accidents on the drivers of cars many of us wait until all the facts are in before maing a judgement.

I suppose I get out and about to much, but for the most part I agree with the bikers. Kinda sad to say most people ignore anything and everything that is not another car.

I see people about to step off the curb to cross the street at the stoplights, green light for them to walk the direction they are going, only to jump back because some dweeb in a little car with more weight in speakers than anything else is going to turn right.

I see a motorcycle going along in a lane of traffic, going just as fast as everyone else have to slam on the brakes and scoot a lane or more over because the person in the car traveling next to them needs to turn left, or right or simply wanted to move a lane or more over.

Though I have to admit the absolute dumbest people on the road are universally seated on a motorcycle, not a Harley, they are on the rice burner motorcycles. If you don't know, that is the fast motorcycles made by Honda Suzuki and so forth. The one ridden by the now dead guy listed above is a prime example. They make people doing 70 look they are standing still, they weave in and out of traffic, getting past two cars parallel to each other by driving on the line. Usually have no helmet on in Arizona, wearing shorts and flip flops, maybe a t shirt, though many seem to enjoy having a shirt tucked into their pants and waving in the wind.

Now as for this case, it sucks he is dead, it sucks the other driver is dead. I just can't help but think that maybe if he had realized wherever he was going was not going anywhere and there was no reason to be doing 140 MPH at least they both would be alive right this second.

EMAP

I'm surprised the biker didnt hit construction vehicles first; the whole highway is being repaved, etc. I saw a few near-collisions from people just trying to enter and leave the roadway. Its a mess. Bikers need to understand that theyre low visibility, especially to the geezers.

A year or so back an old woman nailed 4 Harleys at once. She ran a light at the exact moment 4 riders were crossing the intersection.

In fairness, though, I saw a County dump truck run a light yesterday. It wasnt almost red, it was red for sure because I was stopped when he blew thru.

A guy I use to work with had a bike he rode with the throttle either at the closed stop or the open stop, nothing in between, or so it seemed. One night he was on a back road (no street lights or anything) going, according to the police, in excess of 90 MPH. A car pulled out in front of him and he T-boned it in the drivers door, killing both him and the driver of the car.

On another note, I was driving home from work one day on the freeway. Going in the other direction, I saw a guy on a crotch rocket, wheeling while standing on the front seat at well over the sped limit, which was 65. I dont know if anything happened but I was amazed at the guys stupidity.

I hate that stretch of 19...the construction really fucks up the flow of traffic, and when you're trying to make an U-turn, you may end up sitting there for more than 5 minutes...and you can't decide to go to the next spot cuz they have curbs all around you in the U-turn lane.

And WTF is with all the fucking U-turns in the first damn place? This part of Florida is most U-turningest place in the entire country. Except for that one place I did a U-turn at earlier this summer...apparently I found the ONLY damned place in the state of Florida where you can't make a U-turn....and I gotta do it in front of a cop.

(Come to think of it....19 in Clearwater where they're doing construction is even worse....I avoid it like the plague. People down here drive ALMOST as bad as folks in Memphis)

I'm not surprised he didn't hit construction vehicles first. The crews are always careful to not just swing the arm out into traffic and they park them off the driveable sections of road. When they are in transit they are huge so no way to miss them.

As for the bad way people drive, I think Arizona takes the cake in that department. California drives really really fast all the time, curse of having all those freeways I guess, Arizona drives really fast, and then really really fast in rain.

Morning news starts at 6AM, in half an hour there has already been 6 accidents, at least one fatal and two more that required emergency crews. I don't watch the news, I turn the TV on to listen to sometimes when I am trying to be good and stay awake for him to get home.

The rest of it I already detailed in my earlier post, happens daily here. Cars are apparently made to remove your brain when you get in them, besides a few that you can see actually using turn signals, looking about instead of just changing lanes and don't try and run over people trying to cross the street.

Not that walking is any better here, there is an apartment complex across the street from a grocery store, see people running across it all the time, this is a major street, rarely see a gap long enough to cross, but people try, especially when the light maybe 100 yards distant just turned green for that direction. See them doing it with grocery bags in their hands, see them walking sometimes with grocery bags and cars having to slam on the brakes. Every once in a long while, I'll see a mom and her baby stuffed, not literally into a cart with the walker sticking up behind the poor kid and alot of groceries in the cart crossing the street, right up to one of those center dividers with trees in it. She got stuck there, though at least was smart enough to cross at almost the gap so she had to push the cart over to there and finish crossing.

Needless to say, Arizona is all sorts of fucked up people wise. Other than that, really a nice place to be I swear, the heat is a dry heat and it gets almost cold enough to snow in Pheonix. Not that a dry heat helps any but well it's what I am supposed to say.

On my ride today I was passed by several other riders on the "Crotch Rockets".

I was tooling along at 50 in a 45 zone. I was working with the traffic, I had found a nice open space in the flow and was comfortable. Then these numb nuts came screaming past me like I was sitting still.

I was wearing my leather, gloves and a full face helmet. One of these guys was wearing a helmet, above his TShirt and shorts.

After they screamed past I watched a noticable change in traffic around me. The cars that had been giving me a nice cushion of space closed it up. Those who had been giving me some breathing room came a lot closer. It was almost aas though they were saying these people were idiots on bikes so I had to be one as well.

I was glad to get off that road and onto another even as I hoped these idiots hadn't passed that way before me.

I knew the guy on the bike vicariously. He died on impact.

And yes, it was completely his fault, and there is now a mother with two children without a husband/father because of his being a fucktard.

The parents of the boy on the cycle report that he was a good boy who had a problem speeding. Their good boy also had a suspended drivers license for reckless driving.

I went for another ride today, (Yes James I am still intent on riding.) I won't bore you with the details of it though.

One thing I did notice though was traffic along the coast road I was riding came to a standstill for a bit. Then I saw a Rescue Helo lift off. The driver beside me was sitting there with his car in par and his window open. He caught my eye so I flipped up my visor and listened as he told me it was going to be a while, the road ahead was blocked.

Hearing this I shut down my bike and removed my helmet while opening my coat. (An 8 pound black and white Leather Coat gets warm in a hurry.)

As I'm sitting there on the bike enjoying the cool breeze the guy who had told me about the road being closed started a conversation. He told me the road was closed because of a Rider losing it in a turn and hitting a parked car. He, according to the radio, was dead on impact.

I asked a couple of questions. Had the radio report said anything about the bike he was on or the equipment he was wearing? The guy told me the reports he had heard stated the guy was on a sport bie of some kind and had been wearing no gear. (Shorts and a T-Shirt.) He was also screaming along at a high rate of speed, passing cars on both sides of the traffic lane. He had been passing a line of cars on the left when oncoming traffic forced him back into his lane. Too bad it was in a curve and he lost it.

When I heard this I muttered under my breath while shaking my head. The guy in the car heard and saw this and looked at me in shock.

So I was uncharitable but it's true I made the comment about the guy being an "Organ Donor".

Hey I ride safe and I'm not overly annoying. I obey the traffic laws and I watch the people around me because I know to them I am invisible.

These damned fools ride like idiots because they think they can get away with it, then when they screw up they blame everyone but themselves. They blame the drivers of cars, they blame the other riders, hell they even blame the laws of the state that allows them to ride without helmets.

To me they are nothing more than organ donors waiting for people to need their organs.

My daughter-in-law came to her senses and sold her Harley (the one she wrecked).

The problem with bikes is your exposure to everything. Youre just screwed regardless of what happens.

Yes, yes you are exposed to everything. Then again you also have some abilities the people in cars don't have.

On my ride today I was stopped at a traffic light. I was a bit to the side of the car head of me and I was watching my mirrors as I have been told to do. The next car in line pulls up behind me but I did relax. I could see the driver in the lexus behind me was busy talking on her phone while her passenger was playing with something on the dash. (Radio maybe?)

As I watched her in the mirrors I saw her car edging closer and closer. She was also becoming a bit agitated with her conversation as well as her passenger. When she came within a couple feet of my back tire I decided to move. I eased out the clutch and jumped the bike ahead and to the right just before the lexus did it's own jump. Right into the back of the car I had been behind. To say I was happy I had followed the advice of others and watched behind me would be an understatement. (Lets see a car driver get out of the way like that.)

Also on my ride today, in a place called Jupiter Island I was tooling along following the speed limit. Several cars came up behind me, they were in a hurry I suppose. Instead of speeding up and pushing it I pulled over and let them past. They screamed past me and I waited a couple of minutes before pulling back onto the road. A short distance ahead I came to a truly fun set of twists in the road and was able to take them at a comfortable speed. Sure I could have sped up and stayed ahead of them, instead I pulled off and let them by. If I had been going at the speed those cars seemingly wanted to go I would have had a hard time in those curves. (Then again I'm sure some of those cars had a fun time in those curves.)
