Well, having been a guy that someone sprung the bondage side on... ie being handcuffed while sleeping I can tell you that surprising as it was... more surprising is the fact someone can break your head board. For many years I fought with my dom side and denied the part a part of me I truly enjoyed with the right partner so I can understand some heistation. We all live with preconcieved notions about what is right and wrong and how we should act. I would follow advice about talking about fantasies, maybe showing him a story from this site. There are a number of good works on how much trust and love is shown by a dom/sub relationship. You could also be naughty and get him to swat you on the butt... and make sure he knows you enjoy it .

While it may or may not be his "hang-up", if what you lean to is the sub side then explaining that giving control over to him is something you want to do may help. Let him know that by submitting to him, you're not weak, it is a gift. It doesn't make you less, rather it makes you both stronger.
And sigh, I am not saying this well tonight--but I hope you understand what I mean.
