It is just about this time that I would find him scratching(?) at the back door. (picture a cat scratching on glass) wanting in. Whereby he would immediately leap onto the desk and sit his ass on the keyboard and purr like a 747 at takeoff. Headbutting me to let let me know I was "accepted".
He has been gone for almost a month now. I miss him. I usually don't think about it but at odd times he comes to mind. Like now.
His name was "Lucky". Although as many cat people know they never ever answer to their name.
I named him that in reference to his becoming a member of our "family"
Back in '96 I was driving my truck north on I-71 just north of Cincinnati when a tiny orange blur dashed across the road. I stopped the truck and got out. I gave the universal calling sign for cats..."Here Kitty". He immediately came out of the tall grass and came directly toward me. I couldn;t leave him there so I took him with me. He spent most of the trip sleeping on my lap.
When I returned to Cincinnati that afternoon I realized that I had a problem in getting him home. I had ridden my motorcycle to work that day. Bein ever so industrios I shoved him into my back pack and commenced to ride home. About two miles into the trip I felt claws digging into my side and across my belly as I was cruising down the expressway....Yep it was the kitten. He had managed to extricate himself from the back pack and was making his escape. At 50 MPH he leapt from my lap and landed directly on the roadway. I stopped the bike and sure enough he was right ther and he came directly to me. This time I stuffed him good and took him home.
My wife was not fond of cats at all. She had never grown up with them and hated them (so she said). When I got home she was outside with my oldest son and she heard him in the bag. Long story short, she ended up caring for him as much as I. We have two black cats now One female and one male. Agnes and Angus. I still am taken aback when I see my wife holding Agnes (3 months old) as she is sleeping.
Lucky disappeared a month ago.....I hope his name is fitting.
As for this post, blame the wine....
