I've been to Greek, Italian, Jewish, and of course English Weddings. But tomorrow will be the first Sikh Indian Wedding I've ever attended. I'm expecting beutiful girsl, extreme kitsch, plenty of food and heavy Bangra.

when i was sixish...i was a flower girl for a 'faux indian' wedding...really they were all hippies caught up in hare krishna...very exciting for a six year old who never had seen a wedding outside..
the curry was excellent!

I bet you looked cute.
i have to say...it was one of those rare times in my life where i would have to agree with you. when i see the piccies...its like a dream though, not really me?...very odd sequence of events...the images are all sepia in my head....fading to black and white.

When my cousin married a beautiful Indian (she was from India) they had a fantastic wedding. I had never seen so much colour and tradition. Oh my gosh the food was to die for, if you went hungry it was your own fault! After 18 yrs they are going strong, and Neeta even saved her wedding Sari for her daughters to wear.

Weddings all seemed the same kind of thing to me, each time I attended one. Good fun up to a point, but nothing really to do with me.

And then my eldest got married. I can't begin to express the emotions that I experienced on the day. Mother of the groom was emotional enough, how one ever copes with being mother of the bride.....thank god I'll never have to know.

I was incredibly proud of him.....and his younger brother. Two gorgeous, handsome, sensitive, charming young men.......and they are part of me. Never ceases to amaze me. How did that happen???

I would have said the same. Even my own wedding seemed like it was happening to someone else .... It took one of my kids to make it real.

Did he nudge you during the ceremony and say "Oy Dad: The ring, the ring, idiot"

His focus, as I recall it, then as now was on the wallet.

My wedding was small but joyful. I remember it perfectly: A Sunny day in November. Er, that's about it, really.

As a mother, I know exactly what you mean.

My son is going out with a pretty blonde Shikse. I'm so proud.

How cool for you.

when I was younger my dream wedding was to study wedding traditions all over the world and incorportate as many elemants as possible into something really unique and beautiful. still like the idea:) [i'm pro-wedding, anti-marriage however and that creates some conflict:D)

Shall we dance?
On a bright cloud of music shall we fly?
Shall we dance?
Shall we then say "goodnight" and mean "goodbye?"

five free spankings if you can tell me where that came from

Seacat you have my undying thanks ( couldnt spell gratitude)

I'm disappointed. I had Banghra confused with Mumbai, the eagerly anticipated Hamal Kassam flick out of Bollywood. Hindi. My mistake. But what a wedding that would have been!

I'll ask my sister. She gets married a lot, and she always does the full, formal ceremony. Whatever you need to know, I'm sure she can help.

LOl ok - but I am not having the big white dress thang!! ;)

Joe, thanks for the wedding pictures. I hope you don't mind my sharing them with the rest of the forum.

Here's Joe with the bridesmaids. The wedding photographer wanted to do something a little different. (Joe, is that the bride on top? Or the maid of honor?)

And here's Joe again (yellow scarf) as the life of the party, participating in a ceremonial production number at the reception.
