Pakistan: Sunni Islamists Open Fire On School Bus With Shia Children Inside, Throw Acid On The Kids…





PESHAWAR: Shias in Kurram Agency,suffered a second attack in three days after unidentified suspected militants targeted a group of Shia students with guns and acid on Friday.

A vehicle carrying students from Kohat to Parachinar was targeted by militants. The attack injured three students including a female student.

Nabila a student of Masters was among the victims. She told a doctor at the Agency Headquarters Hospital (AHQ) in Parachinar that they were returning from the Kohat University to their native areas after appearing in viva exams for their masters class. As they neared Durrani area in lower Kurram, militants intercepted their vehicle and opened fire at them. They then threw acid on the students.

As a result, at least three of the students were injured.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Dr Mashad Ali at the AHQ said that a total of three students were injured and two of them, Nabila and Shahid Hussain, suffered acid burns. He said that one of the injured students Muhammad Ali, had suffered a bullet wound, has been admitted into the hospital and in a precarious condition.

Violent clashes erupted in Dar es Salaam’s Mbagala suburb yesterday when scores of Muslim youth stormed a police station and demanded that a 14-year-old boy accused of urinating on the Quran be handed over to them.

In the aftermath of the confrontation, at least five churches were attacked, several car windows smashed and passersby injured as the angry mob moved from street to street at Mbagala Kizuiani protesting the desecration of the holy book. [...]

A source told The Citizen on Saturday that the origins of the clashes could be traced back five days to an incident in which a Christian and Muslim boy got into an argument over the power of the Quran to turn anyone who defiled it into a snake.

According to those reports, the Christian boy swore he would not be harmed if he played with the Quran while his Muslim friend maintained that he would turn into a snake or run mad if did so.

The Christian boy then urinated on the book—and set off a chain of events that would turn the area into a battleground for what the Muslims described as a defence of their faith.

The protesting group initially arrested the boy at around 9am on Monday and took him to a police station. The incident turned deadly after the angry Muslims mobilised more support during Friday prayers, reportedly in an attempt to grab the boy from the police station and behead him. [...]

Protesters attacked the Catholic Church at Mbagala Zakhem and broke down the door and an Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania was torched in the same area.

At Mbagala Kizuiani, reports which were later confirmed by ACP Misime further say, the Seventh Day Adventist, Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG), Moravian and Anglican Church and two other catholic churches were attacked and properties destroyed. During the fracas, which was made worse by vandalism, the windows of a vehicle belonging to Clouds Media Group were smashed.

In July, a man and woman caught in the act of adultery were forced into two holes and stoned to death publicly to set an example to terrified residents watching in silence and fear.

While it comes as no surprise, basic human rights are continually being stripped away from most of the residents in the area and women and children endure the worst of it. In an area where more than half of the population lives off of $1.25 a day, many will do anything for extra cash. Women are often forced into marriages and in an area where wives can be bought for $1,000, their husbands will often resell them. Militants are also buying children for as much as $600 and then enlisting them as child soldiers.

A 16-year-old Christian boy has been held on blasphemy charges in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

The boy, named by police as Ryan Stanten, is said to have forwarded a text message which allegedly contained offensive material on Tuesday.

The following day an angry crowd ransacked his family home, setting fire to their belongings on the street.

Pakistan’s blasphemy laws have been criticised for their severity and for being open to abuse.

There has been renewed focus on the laws ever since a young Pakistani Christian girl was arrested in August on blasphemy charges after a mob accused her of burning the Koran.

Following an outcry over the case, Rimsha Masih, who is thought to be 14 years old but with a younger mental age, was released on bail – an extremely rare move in blasphemy cases.

Today, Col. Dooley finds himself at a dead end while being targeted for criticism by American Islamic groups, at least two of which are linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, which advocates universal Islamic law.

More important, Col. Dooley’s critics include Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In a news conference with Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta in May, Gen. Dempsey, the nation’s highest-ranking military officer, publicly excoriated Col. Dooley’s training materials as being unfair to Islam and “academically irresponsible.” [...]

Richard Thompson, president of the nonprofit Thomas More Law Center, is representing Col. Dooley in an appeal against the negative report. He said the Pentagon is trying to appease the Muslim Brotherhood.

Thoughts

After reading through all of the posts on this thread, I thought I'd post a few thoughts...take them or leave them, they are my opinion.

1. There are legitimate National Security reasons for the US to be invovled in the Middle East. Unless you've spent any significant time studying international politics and National Security matters, you're not likely to be able to understand why. It is naive to think that we can step out of the Middle East entirely and "let them kill themselves off" without risk to our National Interests.

2. Extremist Muslims are no different, in truth, than extremist Christians. Abortion Clinic bombings, Gay-bashing hate crimes, etc. If you think America is free from extremists within the predominant religion in this country, you're sorely mistaken.

3. There is a distinct difference between "Politically Correct" and culturally aware/sensitive. Had the settlers been more "culturally aware" and less extremist, then the Native Americans wouldn't be living on reservations and the US government would not control the entire portion of North America that rests under it's borders. However, since the majority decided that Natives were "savages" and less that human, a war was waged for control of the land, and unfortunately, the Natives lost. An entire set of cultures has been systematically targeted for elimination for over 200 years. Before you go judging another culture...make sure the one you're defending deserves that level of loyalty.

Someone said that Americans kill more of their fellow Americans than the Taliban kills outsiders...and based on the overall murder statistics, that's absolutely accurate. Violence between cultures/races/societies/people is and has been a simple fact throughout the ages. It's not likely to change anytime soon, the ONLY difference is that now, we have a million social media outlets to bring these incidents to the masses.

He added that Malala was not the only Pakistani woman to face injustice or persecution.

Takes a brave man to shoot an innocent schoolgirl.

(Tolo News) — A schoolgirl has been shot dead allegedly by local Taliban members while on her way home from school in eastern Kapisa province, provincial officials said Tuesday.

The girl, Anisa, was in Grade 10 and working as a volunteer on a polio campaign in Kapisa. She was returning home from the Mahmoud Raqi Girls High School on Sunday when she was killed in a volley of bullets from armed men.

Kapisa Head of Women’s Affairs Saifoora Koohestani said it was local Taliban gunmen, although the group has not claimed responsibility.

“This girl was tenth grade student of Mahmoud Raqi Girls High School in the second part of Koohestan, Kapisa Province. This girl was not only a student, but also a volunteer worker for the (Ministry of) Public Health in the polio campaign,” she said.

The Taliban has opposed the polio campaign in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
