"I hope he fails!" (Food fight in DC)

And what's really hilarious is that you and the Bush people were wrapping yourselves in the flag and calling any opposition treason last year at this time. How two-faced you are.

(I hope the little girl on your lap has had her rabies shot.)

Only six weeks of Obama and the right wing is lost it's mind and what moral fiber they had left. They are letting a "Celebrity" define their agenda?

What has the Right come to when they care so little to examine the issues before the country? We have almost lost our Army, the one that is there is not the hard bodied professional force the invaded. The Marines are in the same shape.

Our Economy is in the sewer and we spent a Trillion dollars on an unnecessary war!

And Mr. Steel apologizes to Rush for calling him a Radio talk show host and a clown?

I thought the loonies were on the Left now we have Right wing Loonies as well and they are in charge of the party!

In the event you did not notice this is the Author's Hangout, a sort of chilling out place for those who write but have ethics and morals inherent in their work.

Take this as the last response from me for anything you post because it is.

Amicus...

If this were only the hangout for those with ethics and morals, you certainly wouldn't be here in the first place, Amicus.

And, I do so welcome this being your last post to me. And I hope you change your Avatar, because--on this Web site--that just looks sick. I have granddaughters, and there's no way in hell I would slap their photos on a porn board.

Oh, by the way, when I think you are being disgusting, I won't have any problem posting to your posts.

I think it might be best for the country at large if this administration fails early, because as outrageous as it may seem to some, many are ready to take arms, refuse to pay taxes and boycott government and thas not a good thing for anyone....but if it comes to that...count me among the willing.

Amicus...

Hmmm...that sort of looks like you're advocating the violent overthrow of the government. Isn't that considered treason? Too bad for you Ami. Now that your treasonous statement has been quoted, there will be no way for you to go back and edit it when the FBI comes knocking at your door.

I think you're going to like your orange jumpsuit, which should match the orange juice you're so fond of. They do serve orange juice in jail, don't they?

Thas a really weak left jab, you can do better, I know you can.

I can understand your dilemma, but I do not feel your pain.

Imagine that, a left wing President, majority in both Houses, most Governors, a perfect scenario...a shame it is falling flat.

And those who offer even verbal opposition are called 'traitors'? You must really be frightened that chubby ole Limbaugh is gonna sink ur lil rubber ducky.

For a generation now, the left has hoodwinked the public, bit by bit, with a social agenda that seemed innocuous on the surface but has really been a body blow to traditional and conventional ethics and morals.

When seen as a whole package, as the public is seeing now, the ugliness becomes evident and they ain't gonna buy it.

So, a quick demise to the grand scheme, four miserable years of whining from the left and then final realization that you are all wrong for America.

Your, 'big change' to socialize the nation is gonna come and go, and leave you applying for citizenship in Canada, where you belong anyway.

Bye.....

Amicus...

Last night I finished a book titled THE BLACK SWAN by a guy named Nassim Taleb.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nassim_Taleb

The book is full of insights about how the government fucks things up, how writers get published, etc.

He wrote the book during 2004-2006. One of his asides is an observation about FANNIE & FREDDIE and the banking industry in general. He said that FANNIE & FREDDOE were sitting on a huge pile of dynamite, and...mergers and consolidations in the finance industry threaten to bring the whole house down when a BLACK SWAN comes along.

A BLACK SWAN is something you cant predict.

RUSH LIMBAUGH

I dont care for Limbaugh and I dont listen to his show. GLENN BECK is more my style.

But Limbaugh has 20 MILLION fans the GOP cannot risk pissing off. Most GOP politicians were formerly Democrats, and would love to come home, but they eloped with Ronny back in the 80s when the Democratic Party became a crack house for the Usual Suspects. The NEOCONS eventually developed a taste for crack, but now theyre not welcome back. So theyre stuck with Cinderella's ugly step sisters.

I second that motion.

I fear that the Limbaugh'en retoric has caused the Right Wing to loose what was left of their narrow little minds. If we didn't revolt against Bush/Cheney how are you going to get a critical mass to stage a revolution over a mere $787 Billion?

I for one think it is treason to hope the country fails. Sorry, but I believe that Americans by and large ( Maybe 90%) believe it too.

I stand behind Pirate on the Cluster Fuck on the Potomac (Congress) but when he calls for the failure of the Country, I think he should turn in his Dolphins, give up his Navy pension and move the fuck to where ever he can find that will take a Traitor turn coat.

Sadly this is what comes from the MSM talking about assholes like Rush. Good people are subverted by the weasel words of that idiot.

Rush is like Amicus, he's only looking out for #1. The more exposure he gets the better his ratings and the more money he makes. If we just let him rant and ignored him, as he deserves, he's be left with a dwindling audience.

I never said I wanted the country to fail. I want big Govt Socialism to die fast and permanantly. We don't need a nanny state. It has never worked anywhere else, why keep trying it?

Like I said in my original comment Rush is being used as a distraction. Why else would Emanuel even mention him?

Obama has signed pork and earmark filled spending bills committting more money to be spent than any man in the history of the world in just 44 days. Interest rates are going to rise through the roof there is no option now. That will make this problem linger and we will reover very slowly.

Not trying to be argumentative, DP, but I'm curious--what sort of government do you envision for the U.S.? Which issues should government handle and which should be left to business? Costs seem to balloon under the "Socialist" approach while people seem to suffer under "Free Market Capitalism" as far as I can tell.

My reason for asking is based on a deep belief that "the map is not the territory," i.e., it's all well and good to act based on principles and convictions but what happens when reality doesn't respond the way it "should?" I'm leery of a rigid approach to governance whether it's from the "right" or the "left."

So, what would be your approach?

My apologizes DP.

Yes the bill is filled with Pork and Obama is not on the road to Fiscal responsibility but "W" didn't leave him much choice.

I just hope Nancy P can't make the cut in 2010. She is a spinless twit. This is what comes of letting the Pol's set the rules rather than having an election for Speaker.

The Thundering Head of Dumbasses is not done. The 111th Congress has not shown any indications that they will truly address the Countries business.

Obama would have less trouble with the Banking and Insurance Co's if he had the Justice Dept prosecute a few of them for fraud. Especially if they had to wait for trial in jail.

How long will the Democrats try to blame Bush? The Democrats controlled Congress since 2006. Whatever Bush did or didnt do, the Democrats controlled the money and controlled the votes.

GNOME

The Constitution is pretty specific about the obligations and duties of the government.

I agree. The House could have defunded the Iraq war and we'd have had a Trillion less debt.

But no, they (Pelosi) didn't want to be cast in a bad light, not supporting the troops etc.

The Dem's are not blameless in any of this. They showed in the Bush years that most of them only wanted to stay elected and on the payroll.

It is, yes, and thanks for the reminder--it had been too long since I'd revisited it. If DP answers, we'll see if he's a strict constructionist and if so, of what stripe.

I don't think that addresses the issue, though, James. This is oversimplifying, but I can see a "conservative" saying that "promoting the general welfare" is best handled by allowing the nearly untrammeled play of commerce while a "liberal" might say that, under the same principle, the federal government has the obligation to help those who can't help themselves.

Everyone says ...look at No bids....

BULLSHIT!

Most contracts are held by a 2 or 3 contractors. they are in bed together.

IT IS A FUCKING SCAM!!!

but suppose another contractor wins out on the bid....do you think that they actually bring in different people?

GUESS AGAIN!!!!

Nothing changes...except for the name of the check to pay these assholes.

The same old fuck ups keep their jobs. They just become employees of another compny fucking you and me....

Unless you have have been there....you would never believe.

I am ashamed that I was actually a part of it.

You go, girl!

I was also a part of it...in retrospect, equally ashamed.

What is often overlooked are the legions of career government employees that both craft and execute policy...the party in the oval office and their minions are but a flickering candle to the this bureaucratic bonfire. Politicians deal in generalities, bureaucrats in the details that bedevil each and every one of us. How many members of Congress actually read the tons of paper their edicts set in motion every day? Answer: None. The evil that men do lives long after them, the good is interred with their bones.

I see the need for regulation in some areas. Look back to what happened when Reagan deregulated Savings & Loans, greed overruled intelligence at every turn. Same thing with the Govt. forced lending on questionable mortgages. Someone figured a way to sell those and make a buck, the rest is the disaster we have now.

On the other hand, if you have to have several people or an entire department to handle the regulatory paperwork. The regulation is a joke!

But Govt actually controlling an industry won't work. Obamas attack on charitable deductions is the classic point. People give to charity because the money will be used in ways and for things they approve of. Not just for the deduction. We know that we would be very lucky if 30% of what we send to Washington was spent wisely. There is no way Obamas ideas of what causes to help coincide with mine and he doesn't have the moral right to do that. Hopefully the Senate will agree, there is no hope for the House before the next election, maybe we can then kick Pelosi out of her sandbox.

One regulation that would cut close to 20% off the spending bills of the last few weeks would be outlawing political contributions by unions. Notice how many of the Govt construction projects are Union only? It's a payback that keeps those jobs from the 70% of construction workers who don't belong to Unions.

When a corporate officer does something dishonest, void his contract, ie, no more money at all, and procecute the bastard. Part of the penalty should be never holding an officer position again and treated like any other major felon. No guns, no vote ...
If McCain had been smart enough to say he was going after those that caused the meltdown in September, he would have won.
If an Attorny General in any state did that today he could be President in 4 years, or at least get a Senate seat.

Every Senator and Representative on the respective Banking and Finance commitees belongs in jail for helping this happen and not warning the public.

Bottom line: All the denizens of Sodom on the Potomic need to be reminded that they work for us and are completely expendable. We need to vote everyone out that can't be prosecuted.

Note: I don't care what party they belong to.

Rush Limbaugh has more like 14 million listeners.

Morning Edition and All Things Considered on National Public Radio each have 13 million listeners.

The power of the right in this country is way overestimated. Witness the last election.

My research into this matter tells me that these are also weekly numbers. On the assumption that regular listeners tune in most of the five days that he's on the air, that means that he really only has about 2.5 million individual listeners.

Nationally syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks, The Rush Limbaugh Show is heard by approximately 20 million weekly listeners and airs on nearly 600 radio stations.

Just sayin'...

Great syndicated cartoon by Horsey this morning--the punch line panel has a rich guy on the golf course saying (in effect) "Class warfare was so much more fun when we were winning."

Although I hated Bush and still think he is the worst President in the history of the country, I never wanted him to fail. If the country could have somehow benefited from his policies I would have been very happy. The war in Iraq? I expected the failure, but I didn't hope for it. Katrina? I expected him to fail again, but I still didn't hope for it. Everything Bush failed at, I expected. But I never hoped for it. There are more important things than making sure it is someone who promotes your ideology who succeeds. More important things like saving the country that fucking tool tried to destroy.

If you really hope that Obama fails, stop pretending to be patriotic. You hate America and there is no other excuse. It is more important that you be proved right than for the country to succeed. Patriotism calls for sacrifice and you can't even sacrifice your adherence to misguided ideas, and the concept that democracy doesn't mean what you think it means.

DOC

I voted for Obama, what does that tell you?

McQueeg made most conservatives ill.

Let's test your hypothesis. Run Rush & NPR at the same time, to see who has the best numbers. Rush has already kicked AIR AMERICA'S ass and O'Reilly's ass.

Yeah, what he said.

Not treason by any definition. The 2nd Amendment was written to give us an option when, not if but when, the Govt turned tyranical. This one is getting close.

Another asinine statement.

Let me know when the secret police show up on your doorstep.

Please don't cheapen the word tyranny by making these ridiculous statements. As an author, you should have more respect for language than that.

We have not experienced tryanny. Not a single one of us, unless there is an AH'er that I don't realize escaped from Myanmar or a similar location.

BOOTA

Well, Bush is right there at the bottom with a couple of others...Carter comes to mind, first. The banks nearly failed in 1980 because of loans to South America, interest rates hit 20% for a spell, gas prices went crazy, and we got our ass kicked in Iran.

I never cared for Reagan. The national debt went crazy and the S&Ls went bankrupt.

Bush 41 is a joke.

And Harry Truman wins no awards.

But I think Obama is doomed. He jumped aboard the TITANIC after it hit the iceberg and volunteered to be the captain. If the Democrats were smart, they woulda let McCain take the hit.
