I have.........

I have sinned.

Don't bother forgiving me; I'll certainly do it again.

Welcome !
Read as much as you're able.
Practice with short paragraphs which, perhaps, might actually say more than the mere words.
Pick the style of genre you like, rather than the one with a reputation for readership.

Hi there :)

Word power: read, absorb - and read some more. Worked for me since I was three

I have much gratitude for your replies, thank you.

I have read, read, read some more and will keep reading. I just seem to be unable to soak the words up. Lazy brained I guess

I suppose I should just pick several words and try to use them during the day.

I have witnessed that you're doing just fine on word threads

If you really want to increase your vocabulary, try writing. The right word makes all the difference.

I have added another name to my short IGNORE list. Y'all can guess.

I have to say thank you all again for your replies, thank you. I do, do (ha ha I said do, do) okay on the word threads because I know the words but not always what they mean.

I also write quite a bit but for some reason the words' meanings do not stick. It's only in situations like the word thread games that they come back to me, but not always their meanings.

I have the feeling that it's quite probable - because there are professional writers and much more intelligent people than me on here - that I'm not up to your standards yet. Like a once a week jogger running a marathon against an olympian.

Thank you all again. Your advice is very much appreciated. :) I shall continue to read and write, only more so.

So sad

I have just heard that an old friend (we go back to the sixties) has just died following a heart attack. So sad

I have had breakfast and coffee but not yet ready to face the world. Sluggish start.

I have to drive to Stockton today for a medical appointment. Supposedly 100 minutes each way, 70 mountain miles. I'd rather drive that distance+time in the opposite direction, to Lake Tahoe; but oncologists live in their own world, don't they? The old Kit Carson Pass highway is lovely this time of year. Marmots hang out near the pass. If you're mountain trekking, look for the piles of marmot poop. They like to shit in places with the most scenic views.

I have returned from today's journey into heat-hazy 105f Central Valley air, or what passes for air there. At least it's Stockton, not Fresno.

Trivia: I just learned that Stockton (named for the US Navy commodore who stole California from Mexico) was the first town in California without a Spanish or Indian name. Imagine that. It's also called Fat City (see the film with Stacy Keach and Beau Bridges). It's the home of the Caterpillar tractor. Imagine that.
I hope that the oncologist concerned was a dealer in Good News for you.
Yes, good news this year; we'll see again in six months. The gift that never ends...
