I have.........

I have been trying to install Linux on my surplus computers for over twenty years. Nyet.
I have finally attained a clean install. Finally. After over two decades' (intermittent) effort.

I have got to find a new challenge now.

Get that copy of Linux to work over a modem. That should take you at least another 20 years. ;)

Surely this [now] depends upon the particular 'species' of Linux ?
One day, I'll get round to trying it!

I have ... been trying to mark assignments with a hot throbbing pussy - lying over my lap and getting in the way of the netbook :rolleyes:

I have been trying to decide whether....

to post my sci fi story as a short 3 Lit page submission

or

submit it as a longish 10-14 Lit page submission.

I have two suggestions:
1. Read the other recent threads about longer/shorter chapters.
2. Put up your own thread asking for some opinion, with a bit of detail about the story.

I have also put a cup of tea out for you in Naked Party if you want it.
:)

I have closed my eyes and hope that Sweet Jesus will yell an answer into my ears :D

Ah yes....

His holiness wishes that my submission be given into this wicked place of debauchery in pieces, so that my lusty minds gets some input from the wonderful, yet sinful, readers..

(man! what a crap!)

Anyways, let my tighten up my virtual loins and I'll join ya in a min with my virtual coffee for you (__)3 and some :rose:

I have another attempt from Bard at posting me the dozen roses I demanded as an apology! Hopefully he will never figure out that this is an impossible task as you can only post 10 icons at one go, and he will carry on posting crap about writing things, and having virtual cups of tea/coffee and a chat. <snerk>
With an occasional rose ;)

Heh, heh...I've scourged the web and I've come up with this-

1 rose => love at first sight
2 roses => mutual love
3 roses => I love you
6 roses => I’m yours
7 roses => I’m crazy about you
9 roses => together forever
10 roses => You’re perfect
11 roses => You’re my treasure
12 roses => Be my love
13 roses => secret admirer
15 roses => I’m sorry, forgive me
24 roses => I can’t stop thinking about you, every hour of the day
40 roses => sincere love
50 roses => love without regret
99 roses => I will love you until the end of my days
100 roses => harmonious love that will last
101 roses => You’re my only love
108 roses => marriage proposal
365 roses => I love you every day of the year
999 roses => eternal and immortal love

So, how many do you want Naoko?

Nah, don't be shy! Whisper it into my ears...

I have (update) a Volvo with a useless cylinder head. There is erosion very close to the water passages and the outside. A new head gasket might last a few days.

I have been offered a complete engine for £100 which is a good deal. But I would have to move it 14 miles from the scrap dealer to the mechanic. I will look at it tomorrow, but NOT touch. I will be returning from a friend's funeral dressed in a decent suit.

I have to drive the car I have been loaned. It has a manual gearbox which will be a pain in London traffic, but I have checked with my insurance company. I am comprehensively covered for the loan car while my Volvo is being repaired.

Another update: I have more car problems. The car I had been loaned was loaded with everything for the few days away. Then it wouldn't start, so we had to unload everything and use my wife's small car. She didn't enjoy driving a manual gearbox in London traffic.

When we returned, the loaned car still wouldn't start but the cylinder head off the £100 engine I bought after the funeral is in great condition and will be fitted by the weekend. Approx cost is £350, plus the £100 engine and £35 to deliver the engine.

Then the mechanics will try to start the loan car. At worst I could use AA (Automobile Association not Alcoholics!) Home Start for that car.

When my friendly mechanic returns from his visit to Canada, he and his friends will try to sort out the transmission on the high mileage Volvo - transmission sourced from same place as £100 engine.

So. As of now I HAVE one Volvo being repaired; one Volvo awaiting the mechanic's return from Canada; one loan car awaiting investigation; and I'm squeezing into the wife's car which is NOT good for my back.

I have to say! I think the car loan people should send your wife 15 roses.
Sorry it was such a hassle, Ogg.

I have got over it. It wasn't an official loan. It was one of the mechanic's spare vehicles. I could have claimed a hire car on my insurance, but that would have increased my premium on renewal.

It would have been cheaper to hire a car myself, but at 9pm when we had to be in London by midnight that might have been impossible. The nearest car hire company working 24/7 is fourteen miles away.

Still, your poor wife. :( London traffic with a manual gear. I have a lot of sympathy for her.

I have driven her to London many times in a car with a manual gearbox. She prefers me to drive in London because I revert to London driving mode and hold my own in traffic while she shuts her eyes and hopes I won't hit anything - which I don't. I have over 30 years no-claims, or is it 40?

I have doubts about my ability in Parisian traffic but have survived three recent visits including Montmartre, the Periphique and the Champs Elysee in the rush hour.

HERE are your roses.

I'm sure they're a dozen ;) :)

And some more...

OMG! I have missed these posts! I was so wrapped up in my marking and stuff, I was just focussing on the substance of the postings, LOL.

Guys, what can I say?
:heart:

I have actually been having a miserable day, not much looking forward to a stupid test, and I nearly didn't come on Lit as it can be quiet during the morning. I have really cheered up now.
:cathappy:

:head desk: Screen resolution size. I forgot to account for that variance.

oops! er.. I have a headache now

I have a long, dreary, ill-written manuscript to edit. I promised. I will. Damn, I can barely stand to look at it more than one minute at a time. And I can't even blame myself because it isn't mine.

I have a gas-powered wood-chipper to disassemble and clear. Temperatures here today will be around 95f/35c so that will not be enjoyable. At least it's not as mind-numbing as the editing.

I have an urge to say, I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM, but that would be plagiarism. Or homage. Or misdirection.

I have written the script of the first chapter of my Sci-fi story, which stands at 26 MS word pages.

I've turned it over to an author for some criticism and will be submitted in 5 days. I really hope that it does well.

I have got one Volvo back. As soon as I finish my coffee I'm off for a test drive. :)

I have returned from the test drive. One Volvo is back in working order. Cost: £100 for secondhand engine used for cylinder head, manifold and hoses, £35 for delivery of engine, £370 for gaskets, oil, etc., and labour - total £505.

Apart from topping up oil and windscreen washer fluid, that £505 is the total maintenance spend for 3 years' driving.

I have a Volvo roadworthy for another year at least.

I have to wait for my mechanic to return from Canada before we consider the options for the other, higher-mileage, Volvo.
