I feel your pain Silverluna. Same problem here. The last time I was in the hospital the nurse stuck me three times trying to get an IV started. Once she stuck me in the top of my hand near the wrist and I swear she hit bone. I cried out "Oh my God." They had to get a surgical nurse. I came home with 5 bruises. Two of them lasted about a month. Giving blood is a nightmare and if it didn't save lives I wouldn't go.

Drink LOTS of extra fluid before you have to give blood. If you are dehydrated, it is very difficult to get a needle in your veins. The one time I went for a blood test in the morning after they told me not to eat/drink after midnight the night before, I was so dehydrated they used a vein between my knuckles to get the blood sample. That spot was sore for days. Now I make sure I have lots of extra fluid in me before letting them stick me.

Doesn't matter with me Cheyenne. I drink tons of water for at least a week and stay away from caffeine before I give blood and its still a torture.

I have good veins, but I still bruise real easy. I still have a big bruise on my hand from an IV last week.:(

Me too! I never even feel it when they do it in my hand..... i don't let anyone near my arms anymore cuz i'll just end up covered in bruises....

Try Naicin....

Not too much, but it makes your veins pop out like crazy, and makes your skin vibrate if it's excessive. An old girlfriend and I used to take some before sex, it was incredible, just fingernails raking your cock will set you off. :D

I was 8 and was entering into the hospital to have tubes inserted into my ears, they quickly took me off to have my blood taken as soon as I arrived.

I sat there for over 40 minutes while 8 seperate nurses tried in vain to find my veins. Both of my arms had teeny pricks from the needles, because while there were only 8 who tried, they all (except for one) tried repeatedly - one up to three times. Finally the head nurse came in and got it after the first try.

My mother was upset and my doctor angry, he said I didn't even really need the blood test. Thankfully I wasn't scared of needles and have a high tolerence for pain, they had me giggling about the entire situation. But some of the bruises lasted for over a month. Lol my mother still talks about this eleven years later.

Mine was that butterfly needle too, and yes, it was sore for a few days. When I told the tech that the instructions had been nothing to eat or drink after midnight, she said they didn't mean WATER. How was I supposed to know that? I followed the instructions they gave me.

I'm having a compleat blood chem in the morning, and got those same instructions, I said someting like, " That seems extreme." And he said, "Well, you can have water!" As if he was being generious or something.

*gives Luna big hug*

Sorry about that...I get to stick people and I know how hard it is if they are dehydrated. I don't like it when they say..."almost got it" or "let me search around a little bit"
 Go figure:rolleyes:

Watch out for bloodsuckers too...:D

hmmmm. In my job I have to have a blood test twice a year. In addition to the other blood tests given to old farts like myself just to see if I am alive and kicking. I have found that a lot of the whole needle and vien thing is in the hands of the person giving the test. Some can hit it right the first time, some couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, inside, with the doors closed, a map and laser sight to guide them. The water thing is very important. Always drink a good amount of h2o to keep hydrated. It also keeps your blod thinner too.
