As you surely know, people are submissive for many different reasons.
Yes, a lack of self esteem or self worth is certainly one of them, but have you considered the possibility that those particular individuals actually experience a raising of their self esteem by serving and pleasing a Dominant?
That their submissiveness is a constructive activity?

They raise their self esteem by being successful at something and pleasing someone, much the same way as they would by successfully completing an assignment at work and pleasing their employer, for example. That it happens to be submission is, I think, incidental.

In a successful D/s relationship, the wants and needs of both parties are taken into consideration and accounted for. It's a two-way street, and in the successful relationship the submissive has a great deal more control than many people imagine.
I would also call your attention to the comments of my submissive, who posts here under the name of "mastersproperty".
she is a very beautiful, intelligent, well-educated professional woman with a great deal of responsibility in her vanilla life.
she was raised in an "aristocratic" environment, and expected to always act and behave in a certain manner.

low self-esteem doesnt necessarily have a correlation with wanting to be dominated...
could the process of learning to please and submit actually BOOST some submissive's self-esteem if handled properly by a Dominant person? I would think so...

Learn Humility, Inner Darkness, you're wasting your time here. Bytor is a total troll and nothing but; if I'm not mistaken his last post before this thread was to tell Etoile that he'd jerked off on her photos. Can't fault him for taste, she's gorgeous, but that was pretty crude and insulting, don't you think?
He doesn't get it and never will because he doesn't want to. He's a self-righteous hypocrite, moralizing and preaching at us. I guess he thinks that since we don't preach at people it proves how right he is.
As to the subject at hand, I do have this to say. I encourage my subs to have greater self-worth and esteem, not less. Submissive does NOT equal doormat. You can hold a person who serves and adores you in higher esteem than all others, not less, nor consider them "beneath you". The fact that they adore you in such a way makes you care for and value them even more.
So that's one domme's POV on it, at least. I can't speak for others, of course, but I'm willing to bet that other dom/mes feel the same.
