I hate Protestants, and I'm not sure why.

I used to be a Catholic. However, I've been an Atheist for 15 years. Yet, I still feel a twinge of hatred and an itchy trigger finger whenever the subject of Protestantism comes up.

My Catholic upbringing was influence more by Polish Catholics than Irish. I don't think that I've ever met an Irish Priest. So, it has nothing to do with the troubles in Ireland, picked up from a teacher when I was a child.

I wonder why it is that I hate you heretical bastards so, when I believe in neither Father nor Son nor Holy Spirit?

Because your Catholic brainwashing was stronger than you admit?

I was raised very strict Catholic. Haven't been to church regularly since I was in college (about 10 years). I have absolutely no adverse feelings toward any other religion whatsoever, nor do the other catholics I know. So I don't think it's a catholic thing.

Funny...I have sort of the same thing. I don't HATE Protestants, but I tend to think they aren't as good as Catholics. (Brought up Catholic, currently atheist.)

Nobody Catholic ever told me Protestants were wrong or bad (except Mormons according to my mother). But I still see Catholics as more generous, open-minded, and authentic people. Flame away. :)

I don't think this has as much to do with *Catholic brainwashing* as much as the fact that he's a nutjob..

But, I will also admit to a bit of annoyance with protestants sometimes. I know it stems from my high school experience where I was a lone Catholic in a district all but ruled by one Methodist Church. You really became a social outcast because of it. Teachers, students, administrators all felt it was their duty to show me how wrong Catholicism was. I wasn't a strong Catholic or anything .. but the general ignorance of my faith, and that determination that I needed to be saved from it, drove me insane.

Hey - choir boy?

Eat my brown starfish.

You fucking pussy lickin' quasi-black man.

And that's generous.

Blink!

"Harry, I want you to sell me a condom. In fact today I think I'll have a French Tickler, for I am a Protestant."

Monty Python's "Meaning of Life" :D

Well, that's what I really meant. I see Catholics as morally superior to Protestants. I really don't even consider Protestants (especially the American variety) as real Christians. They don't seem to believe anything in the Gospels. They seem to be much more devoted to the more rapacious and vindictive passages of the Old testament. I'm inclined to believe that Protestants really, in their heart of hearts, worship Thor. They just called him Jesus to fool the Romans, and it stuck. This is much the same as with the African Slaves in Cuba who adopted the names of Saints for their Yoruba gods.

The hate thing is just hyperbole. Although, there have been times when a dirty Protestant was disparaging The Blessed Virgin (Mary M.O.G.) when i had to walk away to keep from taking a poke at the speaker.

No need to flame you, you just did a good job of flaming yourself.
I'll let your thoughts stand on their own worth.

I can't believe some of the crap I've read in this short thread.

If you think your brand of Christianity is superior to another, that's fine but to brand another groups adherents as less generous, less open-minded and less authentic is postively insulting and quite frankly stupid!

The word hate is such a strong word.

I hate it.

I completely agree with you, bluespoke. I also fully admit that my inner prejudice against protestants has to do fully with my own experience in high school. I'm able to keep that in mind, and overcome it.

But, I do agree. There are good and bad and inbetween everywhere. Going to a specific church doesn't change that.

and I would also like to again point out that the Catholic Church Adoes not perpetuate that feeling. At least not where I grew up. All our churches and the one temple in my hometown cooperated in many good works. In fact, my nephew was baptised in a Methodist church, with a priest and the Methodist Minister.

Religion matters little. Faith, kindness and love matter much. :rose:

Yeah that is very Christian. Thinking you are morally superior or actually hating someone because of their faith. Argh! I came here to get away from closed minded religious debate.

is this what all the hoopla is about?

yeah and my family raised me to think the Catholic Church was damn near an occult. We tend to gravitate to whats taught us during youth. While thankfully I grew more intelligent than the illiterate rednecks that raised me I really see nothing inherently biggoted about this post.

I think I am better than my white trash family, does this make me a biggot also?

There would be a lot less war and suffering on this planet if we were all practicing athiests........

you give human kind way to much credit. We'd start a war over the proper way to slaughter a virgin goat.
