Ok...I absolutely HATE being shy with a vengence. In the company of new people, I tend to sit there and watch others have a conversation and well...I hate that I can never be outgoing and contribute. But when it comes to talking to people online/text etc...its so much easier to converse (As you can see by this long winded post). With my friends I'm an entirely different person. Thrown out into a sea of people...well, lets just say I might as well not be there lol.

So I was wondering, how do you get over it? Or are there any of you out there like this? Ugh...HELP! Lol.

Sorry you are suffering with your shyness.

I think every person counts though...I hope you think that too.

Me...I'm the antithesis of shy :D

I hope you always feel welcome here. :rose:

I was like this till I was about twenty, so don't think you are alone.

There are a lot of important details that I would want to ask, so feel free to PM me if you want.

The thing that helped me most was working retail and customer service jobs. You have to talk to strangers all day. If you prefer not to do time in retail hell, you could try some of these other things that helped me.

- Get involved in structured activities with some kind of focus, like hobby groups, classes, or tours.

- If you are going to a party or somewhere crowded, try to be with at least one person you know well. That way, you have the safety of some familiar faces.

We all get shy sometimes. It's rarely something people have an easy time with. Don't stew on it. It only makes it worse.

Beer helps.

Failing that, working at shop or cafe is actually a good idea which I second. You just get confident with strangers when you're meeting them all the time; it's impossible not to.

Wow!

Thanks everyone!! You guys are epic and awesome! Lol. I guess I should start small and work my way up :). Baby steps I guess. Ugh, shyness is sucha desease...

Yeah, it's not a debilitating disease. Just something you have to work on without taking any setbacks as failures.
