It's rarely done for money. In some of the larger groups, there is a little cash involved, but usually any cash taken in is used for incidentals such as rent for a meeting place, web site upkeep, etc.

There are several groups in my area, but only one is large enough to actually require member dues. But, these groups quickly become a family, starting with the like minded people coming together for the same kinky loves.

The local group which requires dues recently had a member couple lose everythiing to a fire. The boyfriend/Dom was burned on his back, returning to the fire to save his girlfriend/sub. Thank God, only his burns and their material things were lost, and sadly the family puppy.

But, members came together and gave money, time, furniture and support to these people who they would have never known, if not for their BDSM connection. Last I heard, the donated money alone was a few thousand bucks. This doesn't include any furniture, time, etc.

The family really needed help. They have FIVE kids living with them, and everything, including all clothing was lost. Someone even donated an old computer, for the kids to use. I think someone also donated an old playstation, and a TV. The family is doing much better, after only a couple months.

After spending 45mins by myself ... a few people showed up!!

My first meet and greet I got to officially host was tonight, and it went well. The group was small (two locals, and a couple that drove 130+mi to check us out, and myself) the people I knew couldn't make it due to some travel and other things they committed to before today came to their minds... but the conversation was great, and it made me very hopeful.

I left my red leather stockroom cuffs on the table in hopes to be as obvious as I could *and to keep the waitress from bugging me so much* And I'm glad I did, my age was a tiny tiny put off (me being at least 10yrs younger then anyone else there.... but it turned out more then alright in the end... they gave me a chance after I talked a bit of how much I do know and how long I've been in the lifestyle. I was actually a little younger or older then the couple's children (tehe) so they were a little hesitant but personality and intelligence pulled me through!
(despite me getting a bit tongue tied... i made up some words bc i was happy, intimidated and feeling like a fish out of water w/o anyone I knew there to pat me on the back when I got quiet)
We barely struggeled for conversation and ran 45 minutes over the "end" time that I posted

I was able to spread the news about this side and this forum in particular, spreading mostly about the great community of regulars and new, and the history and infornmation in our Library. I was also able to get CollarMe out there and I even plugged Bound as well. Oh, and Sub-Shop as well. They seemed to know more yahoo groups and things in a 3hr radius around me ... so we all shared where we were coming from basically.

I have to do some digging actually to find that interactive listing check list that we all did a couple months ago, there was a request for one
One of the locals noticed my cuffs were from stockroom and called JT's reasonably priced, I told him about a few other places with a big enough name that aren't so bad on the pocket, he was thankful.

We have some big plans, but first we have to get the locals to come out more, and other groups to acknowledge our presence *crosses fingers*
