 the power connector to the motherboard had melted and burnt out seriously onto the motherboard i've had to buy a new motherboard now but i cant get it to work yet as im trying to use my old hard disks without formatting them bah :(

anyway i dont know when it will be working and its lisa's and my anniversary this saturday (woohoo i haven't annoyed her enough so far for her to dump/kill me :)) so i might not be around for weekend either

i cant use my laptop at the moment either as i've lent it to someone im using my sisters right now but i can't use that very often really

anyway i hate computers

Hon, I am very sorry, and I wish I could help you. :(

Atleast enjoy your anniversary, make it something else.... ;) :rose: :rose: :rose:

thanks intrigued and psycho_64 :)

ugh i was up till 230am trying to fix it last night ... i think i finally have fixed it i formated all my hard drive and everything backing up my stuff on my sisters computer but it still wouldnt start the repair/install of XP from booting off cd so i pulled it all this morning unpluged all motherboard taking all out and putting it back again it still didn't work so i swapped memory to a different slot and it worked and install XP woohoo :)

im not sure if the first slot is broken (shouldn't be) or it wasn't in right or if the motherboard just thought the first slot was actually the last slot anyway it works (i think)

anyway im sick of the sight of it at the moment but i might try and setup XP later on it fully :)

lisa said i should let her buy me a mac instead :)

Probably a dumb question, but did you buy a new power supply too? If the connector got hot enough to melt the motherboard side of the connection, the plug from the power supply is probably bad too.

Your continuing problems might be the result of a bad connector.

thanks yeah i did buy a new case and power supply ... im blonde but not stupid enough to use the old one :p

i've actually got it all working and setup now ... but still have to transfer my backup onto my computer ... it seemed that switching the memory slots actually fixed it ... my motherboard can only have two slots full of the 2700 ddr ram that im using ... so im wondering if its two specific slots ... but anyway im not going to question it to much as long as it works :)
