...and bought a hands-free phone device for my car.
Up to now, I have been turning my phone off when I get in the car - and missing some important calls, but not too stressed about it. After all, you can just call back when you get the message.
But yesterday, I missed a really important call :( Only got the message a few hours later.
And by then, it was too late..... my friend, who I was going to be birth attendant for, had her baby (total labour time just under 3 hours!), and I missed it because I was driving :(

So I have reluctantly joined the ranks of the 'musthavemydamnedphoneonatalltimes' group.

I have 2 more friends due in the next few months, both of whom want me to be there. Maybe I will actually manage it now

Is no cell use while driving the law there?

Not just no calls, but the law here is so strict that you can get fined for just having the phone on your lap! You are not allowed to either have it turned on (even on silent) or touch it in any way.
And the fines are fucking huge - $300 per offence, and the loss of 6 points on your license (and you only get 12 points, which take 2 years to get back.)

Yeah, I figured as much.

My phone is sync'ed to my car so just voice commands. Any phone can be in my vehicle.

I purchased one of those.

Used it once. It is in the glove box. I think...

If I can pair this to my phone..... don't know yet, as I'm doing the initial charge now.... then I think I will end up using this a bit.
I get a LOT of calls every day. Most business, but some important personal too.
And I tend to drive a fair bit, so this may be one of the more useful things I've purchased

I hope it works for you.

My drive time is when I get lots done on the phone.

No tickets, no accidents, ever.

My daily drive cars are 22 and 32 years old, respectively.
When you drive classic cars, you have to compromise.
Till now, I have been taking my drive time as 'me time', but missing C's call yesterday has made me rethink :(

I have never lost points or had a fine.
But I have been in accidents - all of them caused by other people (them driving through stop signs, etc.)

I've survived a couple of really bad car wrecks wen I was young and invincible.

Now I prefer to be distraction free. I'll pull over and call them back.

Is the LTD back on the road?

Ironically - I never had a major while racing stock cars, but I've had a few on the road.

I wish New York had no cellular use laws like that while driving.

See, I actually understand your feeling. Now that you've caved, I may be the very last holdout.

Hell, I kept fighting getting a cell phone at all for years. I finally broke when I had a fender bender and had to rely on other people to call the cops. I felt like a huge moocher.

But I'll be damned if I turn the thing on unless I have to. I couldn't even tell you my phone number from memory. That's how little I use it.
