I detect the stench of spam in the contests and awards forum! :D Just needed to mention that too obvious fact. LOL

Nonsense! There are a lot of newbies signing up in burst of 5 at a time and nominating the same people, but I'm sure it's purely random. :D

Of course it is.

How do they keep that from happening on the actual voting?
They don't. That's how two of the poetry categories flipped completely in the last couple of hours of voting, last year...

Can't Laurel check ISP addresses like she does in the voting on stories?

It's so fucking ridiculous, the way the same names keep getting mentioned over and over again by folks with all of 3 posts to their name.

I know that life's not fair, but Jeezus-fucking-christ.

Now it's edging past the ridiculous, and entering the terrain of absurd.

Do we all seem that damn stupid?

this is really hard to keep straight, if I'm the good one, or the smart-ass one, but it'll be useful to assist Hot Sweet Tea in her troll-baiting, yes?

Is there anything that Laurel can do about this? For the people that are honestly nominated, this really sucks monkey ass.

I was rather surprised at the number of "virgins" posting there. However, there is this to weigh; when I first started posting on Literotica, I just stayed on the SDC and feedback lists and didn't come to the AH or the GB (where I still haven't gone). As a result, I had read a great many stories while having only a handful of posts. The friend who introduced me to Lit never uses the boards at all; she just reads stories. While it's tempting to see ballot-box-stuffing in this, it could honestly be some enthusiastic readers who don't normally use the boards, but who have been notified of the contest (possibly by the author) and wanted to nominate their favorites.

Or so I keep telling myself. I'm trying very hard to let go of the votes and ratings, and have sworn off protesting troll bombs. (Yes, that's right. It's a good time to bomb the horse. Be my guest; they've already torpedo'd the poor Hesperus.) This is only my take, but I feel that I have what I want - a few charming folk who encourage me, a few beloved folk who critique me, and now and then a new reader who really likes what I have done. The rest ... well, it's all just play, right? :)kiss: to SB).

I honestly wish I could give these folks the benefit of a doubt, but it's one of those things that just stinks to high heaven, as far as I'm concerned.

The sad thing is it might cost the person that is honestly that highly thought of a nomination or a win, and that's just flat-out wrong.

The one thing that's very telling is that these "different" newbies didn't nominate anyone in the genre-transcending category, or the poet category. Most of the honest people went through and nominated something in each category.

This is just "for what it's worth."

There's a sneaky clause in the Editor catefory. To be elgible, the person must be on the Lit Volunteer Editors list. In a frantic effort to put off getting back to rewriting, I checked the list. There were only three names I recognized. IMHO, all are keepers:

Doormouse

Impressive

Carsonshepard.

Dr. Lust (thanks to CharleyH)

If anyone else is on the list, sorry about the omission. PM me and I'll add your name.

While we're on the topic, do multiple nominations actually mean anything? Surely once one is nominated, one is nominated?

(With all due respect to ditto and tritto.)

Well, there can only be, at the most, 10 nominees, because that's how many slots a poll can have.

Laurel usually selects the 5 with more nominations but, in cases of the Poet and Writer of the year, she has been known to pick more. I remember that two years ago there were 9 nominees for poet. But yes, always based on who has more nominations.
