I do declare . . .

If you don't understand why I, and others, found it odd, then you're just being dense. And, I'm not going to apologize for speaking my mind, however upsetting that may be to you.

I've said before that you may be a very talented writer, but it still looked odd. If you have issues with your age or your self-confidence I don't see how that becomes my problem.

I'm through with you. Be mad. *shrug* No skin off my nose.

"Found it odd"? Oh, come off it. Why don't you try going back and reading what you wrote BEFORE you try to play off like your weren't making accusations.
Shall I remind you of some of the things you said?

"Can't Laurel check ISP addresses like she does in the voting on stories?"

"It's so fucking ridiculous, the way the same names keep getting mentioned over and over again by folks with all of 3 posts to their name.

I know that life's not fair, but Jeezus-fucking-christ."

"Is there anything that Laurel can do about this? For the people that are honestly nominated, this really sucks monkey ass."

"The sad thing is it might cost the person that is honestly that highly thought of a nomination or a win, and that's just flat-out wrong.

The one thing that's very telling is that these "different" newbies didn't nominate anyone in the genre-transcending category, or the poet category. Most of the honest people went through and nominated something in each category."

I'm particularly fond of this one:
"
You may not have been implying anything, but I certainly was (or Sherry, to be exact, but she is me and I am her and....). "

Here you are admitting to your accusations. And now you try to deny it?
Others may have "found it odd". However, most others did not go around spouting off bullshit like this. I don't see Imp or Rumple or Shanglan pointing out names or insisting that the people nominated aren't worthy. You did.

Brightlyiburn, as I said a week ago...

Yep, that's my take on all of this, too.

The vast majority of readers and visitors to Lit do not post on any of the forums.

I know brightlyiburn has a large following, so she must be a pretty good writer! Odds are word has got out about these awards, and her fans are just repaying her for her great stories with their loyalty and votes.

Lou - rarely cynical. ;)

Please don't get upset over this and let it affect your enjoyment of this site. I'm not a fan of the romance genre, but I know a good writer when I see one. You ARE a very good writer. You DO deserve the nominations. And THAT is what matters.

As Imp and Rumps said, what has happened this year with the nominations has been an anomally, I believe that's why people started "talking".

I do think it would be prudent for one or two here to back down somewhat and eat some humble pie. This kind of spat doesn't do anyone any good, much less the site as a whole. I don't mean you, btw, Brightly.

Take care, and all the best in the awards.

Lou :rose:

P.S. One final thing: Have you tried getting published yet? If not, you should.

Oh, I've definately thought about it. I don't feel quite ready yet. Although I'm hoping to begin pulling something together over the summer.

I'm embarrassed by the lack of humble pie and the sticky corners it can paint one into. BiB, hope you take Loulou's words to heart. I too am not a romance type but I guess I'll needs be reading you now. Stick around.

Perdita :)

Keep smiling...and writing.

Would have to concur with what's been bandied about. Most important thing, aside from accolades, contests, and recognition which is ALL nice. Bottom line is, the feedback and readers who enjoy a well written story means more than any of the rest of it.

Hell, not everyone enjoys my writing, and I ocassionally get the "your stories stink" stuff. You can't let that get you down any more than a post or a comment here on the boards or against a story you have posted.

This is supposed to be for fun and enjoyment. So hang in there, be yourself, write and have fun. Everyone's entitled to an opinon or opposing view. Participate, comment...but don't take things seriously for the most part.

Express yourself yes...but smile. :D

Best of luck to you in your writing and nominations!
