I cannot keep track of all modern omass murders in USA

Fewer, please, not less.

Less Mass Murder.
Fewer Mass Murder events.

Personally, I would like United States citizens to purchase fewer weapons of mass murder. But, since so many greedy people are making profits from selling weapons of mass murder, that will not happen any time, soon.

I do not understand why weapons meant for the battle field during wartime, are sold to civilians.

Because you never know when the people will need to rise up and defend themselves from the evil government. Those AR-15 look alikes will do real damage against the M1 Abrams, or 120 mm mortar rounds or hell, a standard 250 lb dumb bomb.

In reality, it goes back to the Founding Fathers. Some felt a well-armed civilian population would be a barrier against the government, using England's prohibition against people owning firearms as an example of what happens when the people can't fight back.

That and being able to call up those same people as part of the militia to slow an invading army until the real military could show up. Thus the 2nd Amendment's mention of being "well regulated".

There was no such prohibition in English Law at the time of the American War of Independence. In earlier centuries there had been a requirement for male citizens to bear arms and be competent in their use with compulsory training. Freemen of the City of London are still technically required to defend the City's Liberties with their pike and musket if ordered by the Lord Mayor of London.

There were disarming laws in Scotland because of 1715 and 1745 but the test of legal carrying of arms was intent. To defend oneself, one's property or your neighbours? No problem. To terrify or intimidate the King's subjects? Could be a crime but the law was unclear.

Carrying and using arms to protect oneself against highwaymen was legal. Poaching with guns (or any other means) illegal but the laws defended property, not against murder.

The first major change in English Law was 1920. There had been a spate of robberies using ex-military firearms. After that a personal firearms licence was needed but the test for suitability was really money or status. A smallholder wanting a shotgun for vermin? No problem. A landowner wanting to hunt his own deer with a rifle? No problem. A jeweller wanting a handgun? No problem. A slum dweller? Probably couldn't afford the gun or the licence.

After WW1 the UK government was selling off surplus armaments to 'substantial' citizens. A revolver or rifle and ammunition could be bought for a few shillings; a machine gun for £5; artillery for more. Want to go big game hunting in Africa? Buy a few dozen Lee-Enfields and hundreds of rounds (to arm your native bearers of course). Some of those purchases became very useful after Dunkirk 1940 to arm the Home Guard.

The real test was status. One of the nobility or gentry could own as many weapons as he wanted because the licence was granted by one of his neighbours. If he wanted a couple of large artillery pieces as decoration for his estate? No problem. A known poacher could probably own a shotgun or two but not a rifle. The licence conditions were different. It is still relatively easy to get a licence to own a shotgun in the UK but not rifles or handguns.
