I am not athletically inclined BUT I want to do something...

Fencing!

I took fencing lessons once. I would love to again.

It was so great!

I took fencing in college...lots...and loved it. Definitely a good physical work out but in addition it requires a decent amount of mental focus and eye-hand coordination.

As for my advice...I'd say find something that interests you. Try different things until you find something that works for you. I know I ONLY get motivated to do things that actually interest me no matter how good they may be for me otherwise.

Pardon, me, ma'am. Just wanted to let you know that the absolute best calorie burner for the time involved is sex. Could be a problem, though, as it will probably mess your hair and make you wet.

two people have already said it..but YOGA!! it's the best. it's a great work out and it helps you focus mentally.

i  yoga!

Just from what I've observed

Mud or Jell-O wrestling burn off calories and offer all the benefits of a worthwhile aerobic exercise.

I'm voting for fencing. It's a great aerobic workout, has built in stimulus to try harder (trying to poke the other person before they poke you) and doesn't cost much. Check with college athletics or parks and recreations, they often loan equipment.

If you're really worried about the hair, try walking. Walk for at least an hour, and fast. You see all kinds of things.

To increase my energy level and get me out of the house. I have no interest in sports whatsoever...I know...that is a stupid thing for a mother of 4 extremely athletic kids to announce but that is the way it is.

I played racquetball for awhile, but that didn't last long. I have no interest in team sports. I could go to the gym and work out but I have all the equipment at home, so why bother to pay for it? Same with swimming. I have no interest in golf.

What am I to do??? I thought about belly-dancing...hell, I don't know. Suggestions, anyone?

lol BC...this sounds like me.

I do yoga but I'm kind of sporadic about it. Keeps me nice and flexible;)

....but it's not the heart thumper that I know I need.

Summer's I work in the garden and do it all manually. That helps. I know I'm stronger in summer.

I do 7 flights of stairs several times a day at work. I could take the elevator but I know I need the exersize.

In winter I try to get to the Y to do laps in the pool a few times a week but this can be sporadic also.

I just do what I can do and cheer my kids on for their athletic motivations.

But they're just not mine.:(

I took T'ai Chi for a while in college...sure, it's often ridiculed, but it does increase your energy level and helps you learn how to meditate (which with four kids is probably a necessity to stay sane--I've got two and about to gain two more).

Aikido seems pretty low-stress and low-impact, but I like it a bunch and it definitely gets you moving around. A lot of my friends (especially female) also do yoga.

I've heard that the big craze in gyms (especially in California in places like Sports Club/LA) is a form of aerobics using exotic dancing. Saw a story on CNN--not sure I buy the concept.

Ok, are you saying that you ain't buying the concept fo exotic dancing being a workout? If you are... have you ever danced eroticly? I mean for say like 30 min or so? I guarantee you will feel the burn the next day if you aren't used to it. It really is a work out... and fun too when you have an audience. ;)

Are you kidding!?! Here's a fact. What you put inside your mouth will dictate how you ultimately look and feel. If you want more energy, start changing your diet. Eat less red meat. Eat more fruits and vegatables and get rid of any unnecessary drugs you are taking. Add in any of the suggested aerobic exercises. Do some pushups (with me underneath you, oops sorry) Get a chin up bar! You'll see your enegry rise like crazy!

Try this:

Have a good bowl of cereal for breakfast along with some fruit and protein if you can. Have a very light carbo snack for lunch. For dinner, put half of what you normally eat on your plate. Choose chicken and turkey over beef.

You'll be a dynamo in no time. Stop drinking coffee too!

Ride a bike.....

Yep!!

If you want something that you can do by yourself and that you can do on all diffirent athletic levels, biking is a good choice.:)

Plus, it is a great way to clear your mind of the troubles in your life, at least it works for me.

No, I don't doubt that it's a workout--I don't buy the concept that I have to pay someone XX dollars a month to teach me how to shake it like a stage dancer and then call it some kind of special form of aerobics. I enjoy erotic dancing (well, watching more than performing), but don't try to gussy it up as some kind of new health regimen.

I have seen some sick and twisted things here, but that is about the craziest shit I've ever heard. I didn't know people could BE that mentally unbalanced.
